Dh, the ds's and I want to come to London at half term, the Travelodges that are availaable are London Ilford and London Docklands.

Which of these would be best to book if we are using public transport to get to the city centre?

Ta!

Ilford is on a rail line, with regular services going to Liverpool street. Think it takes 15 mins.

Docklands probably has a DLR (docklands light railway) nearby, which take you to Bank or to tower gateway. These run every ten mins and a re reliable.

There are shops at Ilford, but the docklands is a bit of a nicer, modern London.

Docklands also has the Jubilee line. Docklands is very much more in London, there's even a museum down there.

Agree - Docklands would be much nicer. My DSs regard a trip on the Docklands Light Railway as the weekend treat par excellence.

snafu · 09/09/2005 09:50

Docklands definitely. I love going on the DLR

We all love going on the DLR - its a real treat!

snafu · 09/09/2005 09:57

I have even been known to scramble for the seats at the front so I can drive the train.

On my own, at 8.30 on a Monday morning...

Is there ANYONE on here who will not admit to wanting to drive the DLR, with or without their children in tow, though snafu?
Definitely Docklands Lilibet! Masses to do and see.

OOoohh. Coming late to this, but just had to admit to also running to nab the "drivers" seat on commuter trains - in fact I was really quite disappointed to not have to travel on DLR every day when I got a job in Canary wharf that allowed me to walk to work in 10 minutes.

If you call teh DLR, they can give you the times of special trains at the weekend that have a guided tour on them - it's an organised group trip, but the woman running it does the commentary over the loudspeakers so even if you aren't on her tour you get to hear really interesting info. Like the fact that teh warehouss taht are now West India Quay and really expensive flats were built by Napoleonic POW to house themselves.
