Thinking of the one in Palmliye,Turkey.

Is it worth it or is it a hoorid themed holiday?

I want nice food, lovely surroundings,a couple of hours babysitting a day and a good pool.I can speak French so no problems with communication issues.

Not too bothered about culture as I live in Turkey and have 'cultural experiences and encounters' every day.
Just want to rest my old aching bones.

I went to a bunch when I was single, but not with kids - but I'm a big fan. The food is fabulous, and I believe kids wouldl ove it. It's not really a horrid themed holiday because you can choose what you partake in and what you don't. The big plusses are the buffets - great food, and you'll definitely be able to relax. Have fun.

Thanks almost40. What kind of people go d'you reckon?
I want something stylish but not stuffy or on the other hand, too communal.

We stayed in Palmiye 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. It is one of the largest Club Meds and I think if it was high season it would be overwhelming but when we went (April/May) it was perfect. It's a large site and there are several pools so it wasn't ever crowded and the beach is very lengthy. Food was pretty good, always lots of choice and the desserts were fab! We seemed to be one of the few English-speaking families there at the time but we quite welcomed that. Anyway, at the time we were living in Amsterdam! All the staff did speak English to a greater or lesser degree so there were no communication issues. A lot of them were Israeli or Turkish so probably preferred English anyway.

DH likes to participate so kept disappearing off to do water sports or trapeze but I never felt under any obligation to join in, just wandered along to aerobics or archery when I wished. It isn't an intimate, upmarket type of holiday but neither is it hugely tacky and themed.

We'd go again!

We went to a different one, in Tunisia, for a week in the October break last year. Really enjoyed it and are going again this year at the same time. We are the last people to go for a theme-type holiday, we never go to 'British' pubs or stuff like that. As almost40 said, Brits were in the minority. We met lots of interesting people from all over. There was no pressure to participate in anything, so we just did what we wanted , when we wanted. You could make the holiday suit you.
