Stockholm in December, where to stay?

I am travelling to visit family in Sweden at Christmas via Stockholm and would like to stay in the city for 2 nights to extend our break. Does anyone have any suggestions for which part of the city to stay in or hotel recommendations? Price not too important but needs to be suitable for well behaved 8 year old and 21 month old.

Check out the big chains, places like Sheraton hotel etc, as they often do very reasonable deals (and have nice breakfast buffets).

Thanks. There seems to be a few radison options too.

I think we stayed at Radison ones- the breakfast was good. Smile

I've stayed at the hotel at the train station, the Hilton, but my favourite (which is less central) is the Stallmastaregarden which is on a lake and totally gorgeous and v individual

sounds lovely. Is it easy to travel around once you are there or is hotel location really important for a two night stay? The old town part seems to be very pretty.

We stayed at the Birger Jarl lovely quiet location not far from the centre and again great breakfast. Kids might like Skansen open air museum (they had a wolverine!!)

Very easy to get around - the buses are easy to navigate and use

Thats good about the busses, its often easier and more fun than using a car. What would be the top recommendation for something to do with kids(other than the open air museum)?
