British Airways baby seats?

We are taking a long haul flight with BA late October with our almost 1yr old. We have bulk head seats reserved but I see we have to actually ask for the seat for the baby, it is not automatic. Do I have to do this in the airport before we board or do we do this on the plane? I am pretty sure we have online check in for this trip so won't be going to a desk for that, so if in the airport where do we actually ask?? (Gatwick)
Thanks

We've always put a call in before we're due to fly so there's less chance of it being overlooked. I think they have them on board anyway and you can remind them when you get to the gate. DD loved being in the seat on there - she was about 9 months when we first took a BA flight and I was so relieved not to her on my lap the whole time too!
Hope you have a good flight! :)

They have a limited number of bassinets and seats on the flight. I'd ask for one at the gate. I think it's first come first served.

Thanks - will definately get asking at the gate.

We flew longhaul BA a few weeks ago with our little one and booked the bassinet at the time of booking. We then double checked and had it confirmed a few times (you have to) and again at check in. If you leave it until the gate it may be too late.
Also, even if you have bulk head seats reserved, they can (I think) re-assign them to someone else who has actually booked a bassinet so best to book in advance.

I agree with mumoverseas - you need to ask as soon as possible and as often as possible with BA!

We've done a number of long haul flights on BA with our DD with mixed results. The little seats are great if you can get one - although we missed out on them at least once because we were told that First and Business Class travellers get priority and they only keep a limited number of them onboard (they don't seem to add more even if they know there are more infants travelling than there are seats/bassinets).

The bassinets are good if you have a small baby, but by the time DD was 1 year old, her legs were hanging out one end and her head out the other.

Also, even when travelling business class, we've been bumped from the bulkhead seats because we hadn't requested a baby seat/bassinet when making the booking - so they were given to someone who did.

Frankly, it was a bit of a relief when DD turned 2 and we had to get her her own seat - considerably more expensive, but saved a lot of stress and pleading...

We've never had a problem getting a seat and have flown 6 times on BA with an under 2.

We book bulkhead requesting bassinet. Then keep an eye on our booking online to make sure we still have those seats allocated. Ask at check in (although they can never really confirm it as such, but they can check that you are still bulkhead). We've found the best policy is to get on straight away at boarding when they allow children on and harass politely ask the first member of staff you see. I've never actually been on a flight where a baby hasn't had one and we've never had a problem.

The staff have told me that they usually have enough but don't guarantee it (e.g. if one broke on the previous flight or something) and may be slightly short if it is a really popular family flight for some reason and they hadn't planned for that.

The seats are great - we always booked BA because of it, and will do with DC2.

Ok, will be phoning them again in that case! I have checked online and we still have the bulkhead seats confirmed so far.
