Domestic flight from Heathrow - timing advice

Am flying to Aberdeen from Heathrow tomorrow morning with DD (4yo). BA website advises allowing two hours to get from front desk to Gate - is this a bit excessive, given that I will check in online this evening?

I check in online and fly from Stansted a lot, however Stansted is a lot smaller. I only tend to leave an hour now from when I arrive to planes scheduled dept. time.

Yes I think it is excessive, as domestic flights usually depart from the main T5 building and not one of the remote gates. If you are putting bags in the hold you will still have to queue at the bag drop, and if you are on the early flight it can take a while to get through security, but not that long. The shops are rather lovely though if you do have a few minutes to spare.....

Have a good flight

Oh yeah, terminals... I hadn't even thought to check which terminal we're going from - thanks for the reminder! Blush

From BAs website:-

It is important that you check in for your flight and get to the gate on time.

?You must be in possession of a boarding pass by the time check-in closes, or you will not be accepted for the flight.
?Make sure that you allow enough time to complete the necessary security checks at the airport, and get to your gate on time.
?All British Airways check-in desks at London Heathrow and Gatwick will close 45 minutes before the flight departs.
?Online check-in closes one hour before your flight?s scheduled departure.
?You can view the check-in times that apply to your booking in the ?At the airport? section of Manage My Booking.

Checking in online 24 hours prior will give you the boarding passes. It will also ask how much hold baggage you are checking in. You will still have to use the bag drop facility/check in desk for any hold baggage you have.

The signage for flights at T5 is pretty good.
Giraffe cafe is also nice.

Do give yourself plenty of time to get to the gate area; some of them are quite a way off from the terminal building. If your flight goes from "A" gates then it won't take as long to get there.

BA's website is actually quite user friendly and you can also find out on there which terminal you will depart from (I think its T5 in your case).

Thanks Attila. I have had a good rummage around the BA website, but could only find info on check in times which obviously doesn't apply if you're doing it online. And the general advice to "allow plenty of time", which is all a bit vague.

Basically I'm trying to figure out how late I can set off in the morning without having to run at the other end!

Giraffe cafe is a good call too, thanks.
