paying french tolls with liber-t

I'm trying to understand the liber-t toll thingy that you can order before driving in France. Is it a one off payment and then charges to your credit card as you pass through the tolls?

We only travel in France once or twice a year at most.

I think on ours it's a bank account (we have a french bank account) that gets charged(can use a credit card)- it's one off payment to get it then the tolls you use.

It is seriously good though

Bought one for this years hols in France.. it is fab... sail past all the traffic in the queue and head for the liber-t sign!!

I think it is well worth it.

Ruthiebabes · 21/09/2010 22:19

By the way I got ours from www.aprr.fr. I paid a one off fee of about 10 euro, then every month I use the tolls (which was July and August) I get charged 1.50 euro. Then obviously tolls on top.

Definitely worth it for peak holiday times as you skip the queues.

Definitely worth it, you need a french bank account though. You pay a deposit for the unit (30 euros?) and then the tolls all get charged directly to your account.

How much driving on toll roads do you do once you are in France? We got it mainly because we drove down to france overnight and didn't want to be stopping and faffing about with change all the time. If we had flown we wouldn't have done it as we don't really move from the pool once we are there!

ours gets charged to our credit card. Utterly ace this summer, we passed eeeeeennnnormous queues with no issue.

kiwibella · 21/09/2010 22:52

does everyone use a french bank account? I thought that you could do it from this end. We're not going to be doing a lot of travelling - to Paris and back at Christmas time.

We have done it from this end. I think it might have changed though and we got in before the changes.

We used one this summer thanks to all the advice on here and it was brilliant - it saved us so much time. We didn't need a French bank account though - just a credit card number and you had to mess around with your address to fit it in their form boxes.

Ruthiebabes · 22/09/2010 11:21

The website I used this summer was www.aprr.fr.... def didnt need a french bank account. The website is in French, I just about navigated it with basic french !!

kiwibella · 22/09/2010 18:17

thanks ruthie and loops. Yes, I remember them being discussed earlier in the year. I just wanted to clarify how they are charged. Credit card will work fine :)

One off charge when you order it, then you pay the actual toll cost, PLUS an admin fee of about 1.50 for each month you actually USE the tolls. So if you travelled in June and December, you'd pay the admin fee for those months only.

Sigh: I clearly need some caffeine this morning as have just read 'paying French trolls', to which my instant reaction was, no just leave them alone like any other troll.

A troll in French is un Lutin IIRC Grin
