hi -DH hasn't been able to take time off for hol but now has a week in November. Anyone got ideas/experience of family holidays in November with a nearly 3 year old? Thank you all for your advice! Smile

Depends on whether you want sun and sea or culture and haute cuisine. Long or short haul exotic or 'safe'. A little background or history would be most helpful. Seeing you only have a week, I imagine it will be near to the UK.

I'd go self catering somewhere beautiful like Cornwall or the lake district
hire a cottage from cottages 4 u or similar
I wouldn't bother taking a 3 year old abroad

would like somewhere we can get to without a plane - and not expensive - big chris that sounds like a good idea - pack the wellies and thermals and go for it...

Do you live near London and can catch the Eurostar? Disneyland Paris is only 2 1/2 hrs from Kings Cross, and 2 hrs from Ashford International. The train goes straight into resort. Disney resort hotels are quite expensive, but there are cheaper budget hotels outside Disney with easy access by train - some hotels are literally opposite the station, and just one or two stops from Disney.
Mickeys Magical Fireworks and bonfire nights are on the 3rd, 5th and 8th November, so the resort will be busier on those dates, but generally weekdays will not be very busy in November. Most rides and attractions are indoors or under cover, so wet weather does not spoil your trip.Only some rides, and parades are affected by heavy rain.Adults can go on all the rides with or without their children, and plenty for a 2-3 yr old to see and do.
There are two parks - the Studios and the Disneyland Park ( Magic Kingdom).Monday to Thursday or Friday is plenty of time, and you can also take the train into Paris, which takes 40 mins from Disneyland station.

I forgot to say that Disney Enchanted Christmas celebrations begin on 7th November. This is a really magical time, with all the Christmas decorations and lights, and special Christmas Parade as well as the usual Once Upon A Dream Parade. We have often been in the first week of December, and the parks have not been very busy, with short ride queues.Fantillusion Parade is an electrical parade which is usually on before the DL park closes around 7pm on weekdays.
When the castle lights up with brilliant white lights, which then change colour, it is quite breathtaking.....

Either somewhere where there is enough to do in the local vicinity should the weather be crap like Dorset or South Wales (always find loads to do their with kids without driving for miles).

Or, a city break somewhere like Lille (short hop on Eurostar or Dover-Calais ferry and short drive). There are lots of parks, the Citadelle, free zoo, late November there are Xmas markets, here is a calendar of events:

I would go for the Saatchi enxhibition!
