DH and I are off to Cardiff in a couple of weeks time for some adult only time... we will have Sat afternoon and evening and most of Sunday to ourselves, staying in the city centre.
Any suggestions please for:
something to do on Sat afternoon
somewhere nice for dinner Sat night
somewhere (?in the country) nearby for Sun lunch
thanks

Hia, I live in Cardiff and like Hausfrau I'd recommend heading down to the Bay on Saturday night - plenty of bars and restaurants there or if you want to stay in the centre of town you're spoilt for choice! Can get pretty busy on a Sat night though. Cardiff has got some great parks and a wander through Bute Park and Sophia Gardens to Pontcanna is lovely (I do this v.v often with DD!) it's about a 20-25mins walk from town. You can always catch a bus back. Grab a bite to eat in Cibo (Italian) or Brava on Pontcanna Street - both very popular and great for people watching, nice little shops in the area too. Cardiff is great for retail therapy, usual high street chains and quirky shops down the numerous arcades. Plymouth Arms in St Fagans is nice and the Museum of Welsh Life is just across the road (free entry) and nice for a stroll. You've also got the Vale of Glamorgan which is about 30 mins drive away and plenty of country pubs. Have a great time - Cardiff is a fab place! Let me know if you want more specific recommendations for places to eat (ie Thai, Chinese, Italian etc) x

Saturday afternoon - take a trip round Cardiff Bay in water taxi, or hop on the open top bus around the city, again from the Bay
Saturday evening - Woods restaurant in Cardiff Bay is great,Le Monde or La Brasseria on St Mary Street, La Marina in Penarth,Vendittos on Park Place ( Italian),The Thai House, Guildford Crescent for Thai, Brazz in the new Millennium Centre, or Le Gallois(french) in Pontcanna, or Cinammon Tree in pontcanna for fab indian, the Pearl of the Orient in the Bay for fab chinese,( Happy Gathering in Canton or Summer Palace in Llandaff are good too), drinks at the Krug bar in the St Davids hotel, see what is on at the Millennium Centre(culture), or the New Theatre( stage), or the many cinemas in town.
Sunday lunch - Plymouth Arms is good, the star inn at Treos in the Vale of Glamorgan( a 30 min drive out west) is good, as is the Fox and Hounds in Llancarfan( but i might be there on Sunday too !)
Is that enough? CAT me if you would like some more suggestions.

Think Milge has just about covered it but can second her recommendations for Le Gallois (the BEST restaurant in Cardiff) or Woods (also excellent). If you want somewhere city centre to eat on Saturday night, the Park Plaza on Greyfriars Road has a really good restaurant. The Traveller's Rest is good for Sunday Lunch ( on the road to Caerphilly) - it's the same chain as The Plymouth Arms (and a bit nicer imo). As Haufrau says, St Fagans' Museum is well worth a visit - it's a collection of old buildings, all reconstructed stone for stone, such as blacksmith's, mill, farmhouse, school house etc. Cardiff Castle is also really good.
Again, feel free to CAT if you want any more info.
