Flying Singapore with 9mo - experience please

Has anyone got any advice about flying with Singapore Airlines with a baby? We're flying out to Oz with them in less than a month and I'm starting to panic about a few things (first flight with DS)

We've reserved a skycot thing, but have been told that they're allocated on the plane based on age/size of baby, so if there are lots of smaller babies on the flight we won't get one. Also, not sure if we have to do online advance check in and book our seats to get the bulkhead for the cot or if travel agent did that when flights booked (I know I should just ring the airline, but previous experience suggests the phone people aren't that helpful - and we booked through Flightcenter so cheap and cheerful service there).

Also food - I presume that as he doesn't have a seat, there's no provision of any food from the airline so I'll have to take everything or mash up bits of my meal. I know the UK regs on taking food through security so should be OK with a load of pouches, but not sure about in Singapore (we've got a day there between flights) - I recall that one of the Far East airports we've flown through in the last few years did a liquids scan at the gate boarding the plane and you weren't allowed to take on board even things you'd bought in the airport. That would be a nightmare surely.

Luckily I'm still BF, so not too worries about milk/bottles etc. Presume Singapore itself is relatively BF friendly?

Sorry, thanks for reading long post, have had one of those days with DS with cold/teething/random rash and it's all starting to stress me out!

Singapore Airlines are brilliant. For the seats, ring them and get them to allocate your seats now so you have a bassinet - DON'T reply on your travel agent. They are very helpful.

They have a range of jar food for babies, they came and offered us a tray of them - you can also book a baby meal when you ring them, although I think they're also jars - we've booked post-weaning meals for our next trip when they will be over 1 (have a look at the website...).

Security at Singapore Airport didn't check our liquids so I'm sure babyfood will be fine, I would take some just in case (we had lots of boxes of readymade formula). They also waved us to the front of the line, which was helpful.

Singapore are amazing, we flew when our twins were four months old and they are so helpful, holding babies etc and remembering both their names and which one was which!

We took our DD to Aus when she was about six months old. Singapore airlines were fabulous and we booked our seats well in advance. It's been a long time since she was that age (around 9 years), but I doubt much has changed.
Be aware though, on arrival in Australia you'll have to throw anything away that is considered fresh. We lost bananas and an apple also some chocolate Hmm to the big bins. We also had to clean some muck off the wheels of her buggy.

Thanks both.

Kreecher - yes, I've already got scrubbing the buggy wheels (and my walking boots!) on the list for the week before we go. We're visiting family out there, so just our first trip with little one. I guess better to throw stuff out than have a run in with the cute fruit-sniffer-doggies!

Cakes - that's really helpful, I'm hoping we get offered food - not fussy about jars on a flight! I'll give Singapore a ring today to make sure we've got seats sorted then.

I wouldn't worry too much about your boots. DH took his golf clubs Hmm, they came back, along with his shoes in better condition than when he had bought them new.
