Don't try to read on take-off on Easyjet, whatever you do!

See here!

I don't know whether to scream or laugh at this. How on earth can it be the 'job' or responsibility of a normal, fare-paying passenger to keep an eye and an ear out for the engine noise making a fatal change? Obviously it's a good idea not to put people next to emergency exits who might have problems moving fast in an emergency - very pregnant women, for instance. But in no way is it a passenger's 'job' to be more vigilant than any other passenger on the plane, regardless of where they sit! What are the cabin staff for, ffs? Hmm

Has anyone encountered this sort of attitude on a carrier?

No, this has never happened to us. Are they for real, maybe it is some kind of a joke?

well it IS easyjet.
i'm surprised you don't have to pay for the priviledge of listening for the noise!

actually last time i flew the steward tried to talk to the people in the emergency exit aisle near where we were sitting.

they claimed not to be able to speak english. he said they needed to move (which it did also state on the wall right next to them) because if there was an emergency they would need to instruct them on how to open the exit.

they still feigned ignorance, and managed to stay in their seats

moments later they were happily ordering drinks and food. in english

pissed me off a bit actually. we purposely hadn't sat there as i was pg. and if the rules state that you can't sit there if you don't speak english then they should have been moved.

as a very nervous flyer anyway it didn't do me any good lol

I'd love to see a list of their criteria for sitting in those seats!

Presumably:

-not pregnant
-not obese on same grounds
-English-speaking
-not reading or in any other way distracting themselves
-no hand luggage
-not nervous (see article!)
-no small children
-Nobody with special needs
-sitting in a state of alertness throughout.

Maybe they should just sacrifice those six seats (and their income) in the interests of passenger safety?

Me nd DH got emergency exit seats on a flight in India due to him stating he would open doors in an emergency and guide people out in an orderly fashion[hmm[. I'd like to think he would take care of me first.

Was sitting on Easyjet yesterday twice (return jouney) in row 1 so emergency exit, reading or asleep on both take off and landing for both flights, with flight attendants sitting immediately opposite and not a word was said.

So guess it depends on how jobsworth your cabin crew want to be.
