Nice meal and overnight stay for me and DH within 1 hour drive of Sheffield; any recommendations please?

Dha nd I would like to have a nice night away from home, without DD.

It'll be first time we will have left her; she's 3yo. No particualr reason, in case anyone asks why - never had need nor inclination before!
As it is first time though I'd rather not be too far away. We currently live in centre of Sheffield and would prefer to be no further than an hour's drive away. Even though we'll be drinking at least a taxi could still get us back in that time if necessary. I am perfectly sure she'll be fine though, honest.

Looking for somewhere nice for a meal and bottle of wine, plus for a nice stay away. Ideally one that isn't going to break the bank though, as we are moving in a month's time.

Any ideas?

the chequers in Froggatt has had up and down times but I think it's currently considered quite up

No, not Fischers, was referring to my own previous post about the Manor.

Are you going for a meal or to stay?

Last time I went to the Beauchief it was OK but not great.

Hulababy · 02/09/2005 10:05

Dakota is really nice - is just off Junction 27 (i think) nr annesley (n.notts), Is owned by David coulthard the racing driver I believe, very modern but cosy too and fantastic food

Hula, sorry, missed your question - just a meal, I think. Although if Haddon Hall opened up as a guest house I'd be very tempted!

edam - if you just want a really nice meal, why not try the restaurant in Crosspool - Thyme. Does really great fun. Not cheap but lovely. (Tel: 114 266 6096)

'does really great fun' - sounds intriguing.

Thanks for the tip, will investigate. Her problem is her birthday is on 28 December (I'm thinking of it early as was my dad's 60th last week - she will also be 60 so big birthday). Every year she moans about the fact that anywhere she'd like to go is shut. Asked her where she wants to go this year and she said Beamish - which is in Co Durham IIRC and probably is shut for winter! She really does regress to toddlerhood when it comes to birthdays. Which means she's great at ours, we had fab birthdays as children, but then SULKS big time about hers.

LOL! Meant food Not sure if it has a website. It is Richard Smith at Thyme. Been a few times now and I have never heard anything bad about it.

Went to Beamish last weekend. Was fab. But a lot of it is closed for Christmas. The main town and teh tram is open though and it is a reduced entrance fee too. Still lots to see and do I think.

Where have you decided to go for your night away, then?

Hulababy · 03/09/2005 21:33

Nowhere yet! Typical, eh?

Just trying to figure out which weekend. Visiting friends next weekend whilst DH is at cricket. On weekend of 23rd (or similar) at a ball. On 2nd (or whtaver) DH is a work rugby do. And then on 7-9th we are mving. Running out of weeknds!
