Never been before but fancy visiting. Where would your ideal location be to stay please Dordogne experts. We'd like to be near the main sights that should not be missed on a first visit. thanks!

Hi nappy - just come back from a wonderful holiday in the Dordogne - I think if you base yourself in or around Sarlat then you won't go wrong - sarlat itself is just stunning to - can recommend Les Eyzies for canoe rides !
Have fun xx

Agree re Sarlat. We were south of the river but found most sites were north.

Not sure of kids ages but ours loved the dinosaur park and high ropes at Le Conquil and the gardens near Beynac. For a relaxing lunch in a beautiful square go to Montpazier.

We stayed at Domaine de Peyrecaty but prices have shot up next year.

Thanks this is all really helpful Sarlat does look fab. Had been looking at properties more towards Lot border ie in v south ... and my concern was that that would mean a lot of travelling north all the time. Location location!

We stayed near Sarlat a few years ago. Great location as lots to see around and about.

Would recommend a trip to Rocamadour.

Expensive for eating, but you can visit and walk, parking at top or bottom.
