Morocco in winter with 2 small children?

We need a holiday, and we want to go somewhere warmish. We're thinking Morocco, but not sure what it's like with children (DP has been before, but pre-DC). The DSs are 3 and 4 (prob 4 and 5 by the time we go). Does anyone have any experience of going there with children in winter? What is the temp like? And any recommendations for places to stay would be fabulous. We don't like packagy all-in sort of holidays, so self-catering or maybe riad-type places (if child-friendly?).

We've stayed here it's amazing the owners live here and it is a citrus farm so it's very relaxed but you are waited on hand and foot, they have children so don't mind little ones they're also great at helping you organise trips out etc

We went in feb and it was between 15-20 degrees. We stayed in a lovely riad we found on ownersdirect - there was enough to do for about 4-5 days but no longer than that.

We did one trip out to the Ourika Valley but if they were 4-5 you could do the 4X4 jeep safari where you stay with the berbers in the sahara - my ds would have loved that but dd too little at the time.

Ooh thanks very much. I think we'd only go for a max of a week anyway, so that would be good. I'm guessing that the desert gets pretty cold at night in the winter?

15-20 degrees would be perfect for our (well, my and ds1's) celtic complexions!

I think it does but they kit you out properly round a campfire - magical stuff. The riad we were staying in had a person who would organise all that for you - dont want to name it on here as I would out myself - its a 3-bed private riad in the medina in marrakech though that comes with its own housekeeper if you want meals cooked.

weather won't be brilliantly warm (costas will be warmer) but certainly better than the uk. the atlantic coast can be cold in winter so maybe better off inland. watch out for unheated swimming pools - a lot of places advertise the pool but not the fact it will be icy cold in winter time! the kids will be warmly welcomed and spoiled everywhere.

Yes I would second that - they love dcs and really make a fuss of them. And we didnt get any hassle at all when we were with the dcsGrin

Not too bothered if it's not baking - we live in west of Scotland, so anything is going to be an improvement on that, frankly Grin.

Sounds v magical for children. DS1 a wonderful flaming redhead, so am thinking that might go down well. I, meanwhile am drooling over the interiors of the riads while DP eyes up the mountains.

Thanks for all your advice.

we went over xmas one year with just 3 year old to marrakech and then on to essaouira. was about 70 during the day so lovely and warm but cool at night. so many riads to choose from - look on holiday lettings/owners direct websites. some fab local moroccan/french fusion restaurants. great spas at rock bottom prices, shopping in souks....need I go on!! for v young kids not much to do, but our ds enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the medina, snake charmers, whirling dervishes etc and the beach at essaouira is wide with a nice playground - if at the coast, my advice would be to find somewhere with a heated/indoor pool.
