Checking in car seat on flight how to wrap it?

We're due to fly this weekend with Jet2, are taking DD's RF car seat with us as we're going to be doing a bit of driving at the destination. Any tips for wrapping the car seat to survive the flight in tact?

Do all UK airports provide a wrapping service?

TIA

I think some airports do provide a wrapping service and if so, I'd recommend using it.
We flew a few months ago and checked in DS's car seat which ended up getting broken so in future I will definitely wrap up well. We just had it loose as were (wrongly) advised that if baggage handlers could see what it was they would take more care of it but that doesn's seem to have been the case

good luck

clear bubble wrap is good
otherwise some airlines will give/sell you a strong clear plastic bag

The larger airports provide a wrapping service, which is done by machine. We saw this being done at CDG in Paris.I can't remember how much it cost though.
Smaller airports may not have the machines, but may provide a manual wrapping service.
Otherwise, bubble wrap and lots of tape!!

Remember it will probably count in your weight allowance though, so you may end up having to pay extra on some airlines.

Does your hired car comany not provide child seats?

mcflumpy · 13/09/2010 04:29

We wrapped with bubble wrap & tape on the way out and just taped down moving parts on the way back. Totally fine both ways. Thanks for the help!

PS yes we couldve hired one but we have a RF seat DD is so comfortable in it & we felt assured she was in a seat we knew how to fix, is safe etc

oh yes, mcflumpy we have spent half an hour in boiling heat trying to get a nasty car seat in which I then had no confidence in that it'd actually provide any protection. Much better to take your own. We've just rapped it in heavy duty bin bag and it's been fine!

And it didn't count towards weight allowance. Airline took car seat & buggy at no extra charge Smile I'd definitely do the same next time.

That's good to know, because we are going on Sunday with Jet2. Will wrap it well in bubble wrap an bin bag.

We are obviously negligent parents. When we took our DD's car seat on a plane, we just put it in the hold. Nothing wrapped around it Blush. Luckily she is just on a booster now and has an interesting collection of bar codes stuck to the bottom.
