What can I do to survive 5 rainy days in Norfolk with my ILs?

Aside from drink heavily.....

Am unwillingly going on holiday to Norfolk tomorrow with PILs, DH and our 2 DDs (ages 7 and 4). PIL arranged it all and have chosen some holiday property bond thingy called Barnham Broom near Norwich which essentially consists of a golf course and looks a bit snooty. Nothing for DDs apart from a pool and not sure if them spashing about in arm bands will be welcomed by other guests Wink.

Weather forecast looks bluddy terrible for the next five days. Sigh. Any recommendations of things to do in the area that don't depend on sunshine please? DH has promised on pain of death that he will play a maximum of 2 rounds of golf with FIL and will spend the rest of the time on outings with me and the DDs (and possibly the PILs as MIL tends to want constant togetherness to give her a change from bickering with FIL in private).

Go into Norwich itself - Castle Museum is quite good I think, and Nch is a good city to just amble round

day trip to coast if weather improves- if you go to Sheringham Sat/Sun you may see me!

Oh thanks PandaG - will certainly check out Norwich and Sheringham if not slashing it down (will I recognise you by your dramatic eyeliner? Wink). What is the Sainsbury Centre place like - any good for entertaining DCs? Is the nearby zoo okay in the rain or do all the animals hide in their sheds and look depressed?!

there are specific kids activies in the Sains Centre, think it would be a good place to take them - must admit I've not been with DC - we usually stick to N Norfolk as is where P's are.

PIL took DC to Amazona Zoo in Cromer last year - DC were 7 and 9 at the time and had a good day out.

if it is pretty dry Bewilderwood is fab, your children are the right age to enjoy it - we were there with children from 4 to 10 last week and everyone had a lovely time. Is in the trees so a few spots of rain ok, not for lashing it down weather as all outside. see here

Wroxham barns might be a good choice for all of you here rides and animals for the DC to visit when the rain has stopped, and restaurant and shops/craft places to potter round for the adults - could also combine this with a walk round Wroxham to visit the biggest village store in teh world, and look at/hire a boat to sail on the broads

Banham Zoo is brilliant. And the beaches around Brancaster are good.

Many thanks all - now have a list entitled 'Mumsnet Recommendations' and a better idea of how to get through the next 5 days Grin

The Inspire Discovery centre is a good place to visit in Norwich.

There's a sports centre at UEA, open to the public look here

There is also a Skating Rink in Norwich - next door to Asda - if your dc would like that.

Cow tipping's good. And our neighbour has a lifesize US highway patrolman papier maché effigy in his porch. If you steal past in the dead of night you can hear him cackling 'we didn't burn him'.

If the weather's fine the Dinosaur Park and Bewilderwood are good. Go to the coast and marsh stomp. Brancaster and Burnham Overy Staithe are good for this. N Norfolk coast is quite nice in general. Wells for example. There's a cool little train from the town to the beach.

Norwich is good for shopping and museums and spot the local homeless man with pet ferrets (the ferrets are quite cute to be fair).
