Help! My sister and I want to get away with our kids (four kids between nearly two and five years) from Friday 8th August to Weds 13th and don't know where to start! We are thinking Wales would be nice (we are in Manchester) but need somewhere child friendly and with lots to do during the days. We'd also like to be by the beach. I know we might be a little late deciding this(!!) but we are happy to self cater so hope there will be something out there. Any ideas anyone? Please? Any recommendations? Thanks a lot.

Luchar,
This is your lucky day. We discovered the best kept secret in Wales www.talhenbont.freeuk.com
Self Catering cottages on a magnificent estate. The owner of the Hall 'Roger' and his parrot collected our kids every morning and tokk them with him to feed the ducks, Pheasants, numerous other birds, rabbits and sheep. There is a small adventure playground in the grounds. An old horse roams freely.
There is a great beach five minutes away.
Our kids are six and nine and they had a ball. Cannot recomend the place enough.

Brilliant, thanks Seagull! I'll check it out.

We had a week s/c in Trefriw in N Wales and it was lovely. DS especially liked the train rides, Caernarfon Castle (more train rides!) Great Orme with its cable car and tram, and Llandudno seafront. Also some nice easy walks with cows, bridges and waterfalls. And a good hal-fway stop en route is Llangollen for the Horseshoe falls, nore bridgeas, trains, river Dee and the canal.

Have fum wherever you go!

I would strongly recommend Tenby ... fantastic beaches and fantastic things for little ones to do (from ball ponds to boat rides to farms and adventure parks to name just a few)!

We are going in September to a place just outside Tenby which has a swimming pool and play area for kids. Can be found under Coastal Cottages. (01437 767600).

Good luck!

I would also say that Tenby is excellent. Lots to do and the most beautiful beaches. There are also lots of things to do if it rains, which is always a good idea.

Hijacking another thread - sorry - Tenby got mentioned, any ideas for family friendly hotels for a weekend there (or anywhere in Pembrokeshire) sometime in the next few weeks?

Thanks everyone!

luchar,
Let us know where you end up going?

OldieMum · 04/08/2003 16:42

Bearinthebigbluehous (hope I got that right), there is a wonderful, family friendly hotel at Broadhaven, called the Druidstone Hotel. It's very relaxed (more like staying in someone's house), the food is very good and it's in a beautiful spot overlooking the sea. There is a small beach next to it and a large one about a mile away. Accommodation is a bit basic (no en suite bathrooms), but there are always lots of kids around. They do a kids' tea, but I've also seen quite young ones in the dining room.

Cheers Oldiemum - will look into it.
