Hv just come back from a week Self Catering in France. All very nice but it didn't feel like a break. Shopping, cooking, clearing away 3 x a day. We didn't eat out much as budget was tight. However, have decided next year, things should be better money-wise and want to do an All-Inc. Really want some personal recommendations. This is what we want:

A flight from a London hotel no more than 3-4 hours.
Suitable for a just turned 5 yr old and 2 yr old. So, kids club and possible creche/toddler club.
All meals inc. - good quality and no scrums to get to it!
-Pools to sit around that don't involve having to get up at 5am to put towels on beds.

  • A two - bed apartment or at least, the DC's sleeping in a separate bedroom to us, so they can go to bed and we can sit up and read/drink etc.
We're prepared to pay but just want to get it right. Pls help Smile

I would recommend the First Choice holiday villages, they aren't cheap but the quality is there.

Not sure if you'd struggle to get a 2 bed apartment, you'll get a 1 bed but very few AI places have 2 beds, unless you went to a place which had a SC option and then paid a big supplement to upgrade.

I'm also looking for next year and originally wanted AI and from what I've seen it would be far cheaper to book online, I went to a couple of travel agents and they were hundreds more than the internet. Even cheaper if you book the flights and hotel seperately, and go with a budget airline.

Chia Village hotel in Sardinia. Separate childrens pool, free towels, catered half board. Interjoining rooms or children on the top level. You can get garden rooms so you could sit outside sipping wine. Entertainment and childrens club. Fridge in the room so you could store water and stuff. However it was not cheap.

AI is generally much more expensive than s/c whatever way you look at it. When we go s/c we generally eat out for dinner or at least get pizzas in so not spending time cooking.

I have just been looking at Valamar in Croatia. Various different hotels/residences, but they have childcare/pools/entertainment etc

Some are half board/others AI, and there are a variety of connecting rooms/apartments/villas. Looks very family friendly and the initial tripadvisor comments I saw looked favourable.

I feel like you too MrsOCD... and would love to at least try an AI holiday! There are some good deals earlier in the year (May / June) and I figure for some of these prices that we would probably spend a similar amount once you calculate shopping, running around, and all the extras.
