Going on a boat - and not sure what to take

I'm worried about the balance between taking everything (for self-catering) and very little (lack of space on a canal boat). Any advice?

As you might imagine, it's our first time afloat...

Is there a list provided for what is already there?

cooking stuff?

bedding?

cleaning stuff?

Waterproofs (sorry) although they may supply jackets and lifejackets, wellies and comfy shoes with good grip for jumping on and off boat (trainers, walking shoes), suncream and hats then a mix of normal casual clothes with fleece or sweater as it can be chilly in the mornings or if you go out and come back at night. Check if there is a warm cupboard to dry stuff overnight. There are usually a couple of wardobes and space under the beds.

Catering wise take ingredients for couple of easy to prepare meals (ie pasta bake) so you don't have to shop straight away. You may want to take a corkscrew/bottle opener and baking dish. Usually there is an oven but may not be full size, so probably best not to plan to do a full roast. Plan a stop over to top up on perishables and milk day 2/3 and 5. Fridge is usually a standard size and may have a small freezer compartment. We've not had a problem with space but usually go with friends on a long boat. Disposable bbq is good in fair weather and copious amounts of wine !

When I went on one there was no cleaning stuff provided, so we took J-cloths, Jif & Fairy Liquid. For self-catering I always pack a decent sharp knife and a corkscrew - I reckon I can survive even a poorly-equipped kitchen with those!

Space will be limited - have you stayed in caravans? The space will be similar to that.

A decent torch would be helpful as you may be moored somewhere quite dark.

For clothes, just think practical and layered, and flat shoes with a good grip, as you'll need to get on and off and the deck may be wet underfoot.

We took Dettol all purpose wipes and Fairy liquid plus j cloths, dish cloth and teatowels (there are never enough and get rank !). Foil and cling film. Soap for each sink and towels but bedding was provided.

Ok. Waterproofs already accounted for! Never been caravanning ( Blush ) so not good on space restrictions! Bedding provided so we're ok there.

Lisz -long boat?!? Not good with the jargon, but it's in Holland so maybe not good with the language either!

Will defo pack plenty of wine!!

Wish I could relax about this holiday instead of just worrying :(.
