usually done keycamp type stuff for past 6 years. kids now aged 6 and 7. main reasons for wanting something else is the weather, its just not hot enough for me in france. also want kids club, good beach, posibly catering. cant afford mark warner type prices, wonder if All inclusive would be poor quality, dont want a villa, want good pools and kids club, but not the kids disco type resort. anyideas?

I've done all inclusive a few times and I would say you probably get what you pay for. The food can be a bit 'school canteeny' if you get a cheap one, but excellent if you pay a lot. I would say that most AI hotels do have the kids disco type entertainment as they know people are going there and will mainly stay in the hotel so need entertainment.

The First Choice holiday village's are meant to be very good (I haven't been to one personally), and not overly expensive, I would say the cost is justified to the quality of the food and entertainment once there.

I'm doing the opposite next year I think, we usually do the holiday around the pool, but am thinking of a Key Camp type for a change. The boys will be 3 and 5 by next summer and I fancy going somewhere with tons of stuff to do that will keep them and dh happy whilst I hopefully have time to read a good book!

You've obviously enjoyed your holidays to France, have you been to lots of different sites? I'm more looking at Holland and have seen a brilliant looking one in Belgium.

Where did you go in France that it wasn;t hot enough? Last summer, we went with Siblu to Lac des Reves in the Languedoc. Nice beaches, loads to do, great pool, kids club, 30 degrees plus every day. Sorted.

we have been all over, we had the worst weather in languedoc 2 years ago! mostly south vendee. its not just the weather, its the dust and catering that i need a break from!

We were always very impressed with Club Med. Haven't been since we've had dc, but remember from when I was a child that the onlyminus was that the kids' clubs were often entirely French-languefe. That may gave changed of course.

Centre Parks is good, particularly for that age group, and uou can book excellent babysitters and go out in the evening.

We used to go to Knoll House Hotel near Poole - excellent. Beautiful beaches but UK climate ofccourse.

Hey digbert, I'm so with you! Been doing Keycamp in Southwest France the for last.... goodness knows how long. Have really loved it but looking forward to a trip without dust and washing up! DD is 6. Will be watching your post with eager anticipation as sounds we have similar desires!

If I find something that looks good will post for you. Hanging towards Puerto Pollensa or Puglia at the moment but know jimminy about either!

We went to keycamp in the vendee a few years ago. Never again.

I think to get decent all inc for a good price its always better to book well in advance.

We are off to Menorca tomorrow so i will let you know what thats like when i get back.

You could do the camping in Spain or italy? Always had fab weather in Italy!! but as I rely on Tsco vouchers and can't afford Siblus £1900 for a 2 week camping holiday for mea nd 2 dc, I will also be watching this with interest!

Did you find anything in the end Digbert?

ljb11 · 15/12/2010 16:01

How about this. Last year we flew to Pisa, 1 night there, picked up car, longer stay at Norcenni Girasole (with Thomson, but lots of people do it) went to Florence, Siena etc) drove to Venice, ditched car and stayed ther for a few nights. Kids (9 and 6) loved Venice, traffic free obviously and loads of boats (also obviously). Flights were 400 with BA in August.

Billster · 20/02/2011 15:48

Did you find anything Digbert? We booked 10 nights northwest Majorca in a place called Cala Mesquida. May be a bit remote but better that that over run with tourists (and not a tent in sight!). Let us know what you decided on.

moggar · 24/02/2011 17:23

have you thought about Villa Pia in Italy ? All inclusive with brilliant food !!

bacon · 24/02/2011 23:11

What about a boating holiday south France? I agree AI you have to pay as I dont understand how a holiday can be soo cheap with food, something has got to give and look at all the holidays from hell programmes - all AI. There are plenty of good AI but you have to pay for the luxury.

I want a holiday to be a holiday away from what I have here so I want food to be better than mine, excellent house keeping, great service...endless but prices still coming out £3k plus. Which we cant justify or afford so I just have to accept that the touring caravan is the only way with occassional weekends away with me and OH.

I totally understand where you are coming from but with the euro prices for some of the resorts are still stupid. The value tenerife no longer exists.

I'll keep watching too.....
