Polesdon Lacey - Play Area ?

Am looking for a venue for a picnic with friends this weekend for dd's b'day (kids aged between 3 and 7). Scanning through my NT book it suggests Polesdon Lacey has a new play area and trail for kids. Anyone been and tried it ?

Trying to avoid the mayhem which would be Box Hill, Bocketts Farm et al this weekend !

I am aware that they have one, we just haven't used it yet but the house is on a fab hill which will keep them entertained for hours.

DS(4)loves it and then sleeps like a good un when he goes to bed that night.

Lizs - I don't know about Polesdon Lacey, but we spent a wonderful morning on Oxshott Common a couple of weeks ago. Do you know it? It is actually a forest/wood but does have some open space for picnic. It is free. It isn't enclosed, but there's loads of place to play around the trees. Or Morden Hall Park. Again it's free, and there's lots of space to picnic and play!

Your welcome Lizs

Sorry LGJ didn't mean to ignore you , thanks for your info we like wide open spaces for them to run around !

Thanks Fisil. Certainly sounds a possible alternative.

We went today and had a lovely time. Took the children's walk through different sorts of terrain (woods, fields etc), had picnic in the grassy area where you can play ball games and kids could race around, found the (small) play area which was actually a mini obstacle course with balance beams, bridges and so on, then off for ice cream ! Wouldn't make a special effort to go there from a distance but as a low key, child friendly day out it is fine. During August they have had specific children's activity afternoons on Wednesdays.

We had a fantastic day there earlier in the summer - we took our 5 year old son's big scooter and no-one objected to him shooting down the wonderful green slopes over and over again. Like skiing. It's a beautiful place and the house had lots to interest him too (as well as me). Slightly scary negotiating the antiques with uncontrollable 20 month old though...
