We love it there. Have taken the dcs twice at 5 and 2 and again at 7 and 3. But you will get mixed reviews here.

we arrive to do the main tour which is interactive enough to keep young ones happy if they don't take in the history of cadbury but also enough history to keep adults interested too.

then we have a picnic in the playground whilst the dcs play on the activity frames. But be aware there is little shade so if its hot you'll need hats and plenty of cream.

then we do the second exhibition and the childrens show, then face painting, more play on the frames before heading to the shop.

we've eaten in the restaurant too which we found to be good quality and good value for money. the dcs actually ate everything in their pick and choose packed lunch box. it was also a reasonable price.

the shop isn't very cheap - lots of expensive gift options but there is a "warehouse" bit where you can get the odd bargain or cheaper multipack of chocolate but this is dependant on the day really.

the playground isn't too far from the car park so there's no need to carry more than a bottle of water around.

be prepared to be sucked into the photo opportunities and buying the pictures too.

dds still remember last years trip and always ask to go back again.

Great day out. Don't go during school holidays. HTH.

Absolutely wonderful, it's just like Willy Wonka's would be!! Very interesting tour round, lovely staff, cafe good, and lots of chocolate for free!!!!

We usually like things. But we thought this was shit. TBH, I can't think of anything else we have liked as little. Hardly anything to see in the factory, but they keep giving the kids handfuls of choc bars. The rest unimaginative and crowded. Sorry.

Went last Oct half term, prepare for it to be busy, but my DCs really enjoyed it (aged 9,11,12), agree that the restaurant is good value - we stayed there for tea to avoid rush hour on the M6. Yummy choc day! Enjoy!

It's quite good. I'm a sceptic about these things but I went with my 6 month year and my friend's 5 and 6 year olds. We all had a good day and the older kids are clamouring to go back again.

There's enough to do to keep them engaged- probably the best bit is when they get to much around with the chocolate. But that bit's always crowded. The bit where there's interactive bits and pieces eg: having a picture taken of yourself dipped in choc is good too.

Much better than some of the other West Midlands attractions (the black country museum is dire- and I love local history etc).

Gosh - I love the black country musuem and thought cadbury world over priced.. so guess it depends upon what you like

When we went the factory bit wasn't working so it was a bit disappointing

FreddoBaggyMac · 12/08/2010 12:24

We went a few months ago with our four young DCs and they had a good time. Personally, I thought it was worth a one off visit but would not go back in a hurry. It is VERY crowded and over-priced (not so bad if you've got the two for one deal though). It's definitely good that you've booked otherwise there's a minimum of 2 hours wait to even get in!
It starts off with an interactive cinema bit and then a tour of the factory, which was OK but probably more suitable for children older than mine. The factory tour involves lots of walking with really not much of interest to see imo. Then you come to the cadabra ride which you have to queue for ages for, worth it though as my DCs loved it (although it's definitely aimed at younger children). The last bit is the best imo, an interactive/ sciencey bit. I would personally spend most of the time there if we went back.

PinkElephant73 · 13/08/2010 19:01

I would say its definitely worth a visit but its not perfect. Its bigger than I realised, we arrived at lunchtime and missed the "Essence" part altogether as ran out of time/inclination.

Unfortunately the factory tour part is sometimes shut and there is no way of knowing in advance whether it will be closed when you visit. we missed out, and you dont get any money off. I was disappointed as that was the whole point of the visit for me. There is plenty of other stuff to see though.

The Cadabra ride is really aimed at preschool kids, so avoid if yours are older.

Just to report back after our visit - we got there to go in for 10am which was great as not too busy other than the first part where they herd you in a bit but once everyone spreads out its fine. My kids, 11 and 7 loved it all, its not Willy Wonkas but it tells you the history of Cadburys and theres lots to interest children and adults. Its not a full day out but if its rubbish weather and you need to fill half a day I reckon its ok. We did have a 2for 1 voucher which made it cheap for us too. Hope this helps anyone interested in going and thanks for all your info :)
