Sharm el Sheikh at end of August : Are we mad?!!

Not sure if Sharm is considered long haul or not?

Are we crazy to consider going to Sharm at the end of August i.e. in a couple of weeks? Will it be unbearably hot?

Any hotel suggestions? Somewhere child friendly but also 'nice'. We are treating ourselves as a wedding aniversary present.

TIA

I went May last year and it was sooooooo hot! Thankfully Sharm is the by the sea so you get a bit of breeze.

Are you planning a trip to the Pyramids? I nearly passed out in the heat!

Have at look at this resort. I stayed here on all incl, it was amazing Grin

Hi NL, probably won't make it to the pyramids. Only able to go away for a week, so I think we will be sitting by the pool/beach for most of the time.

Thanks for link, will have a look.

you will be going to a Muslim country during Ramadan. I don't know how much or little it will affect tourist life in an all-inclusive set up if that is the sort of holiday you are having.

DaftApeth · 11/08/2010 11:35

The hotels do not seem to close for Ramadan, so I assume it would be 'business as usual'.

Something to check before we book though, thanks.

you may also want to scout for feedback (not necessarily from the holiday company) of general local attitudes towards tourists during Ramadan if you would like to stray outside the hotel gardens. After sundown when the Fast has been broken the town may have quite a good atmosphere but during the Fast you may want to be more circumspect. That sort of thing, I mean.

it will be REALLY HOT!

can really recommend Hyatt Regency for a treat, we've been there twice with our children.

DaftApeth · 11/08/2010 17:29

The Hyatt was one of the hotels I was considering. It looks lovely.

In the end, Sharm was too complicated - (trying to find big enough rooms for 4 online), so went for Cyprus and after faffing online, had to book over the phone!

I meant to say thankyou to you all.

If you ever do consider Sharm, do try the resort I suggested, they have separate kids rooms (conjoining) with bunk beds, the adult rooms could fit an army in them!

Enjoy Cyprus

Thankyou NL. I had a very quick look at your link and it looked as though there was loads for children. They would have love the play equipment. We just left it too late (as usual) to have much of a choice of hotels and rooms.

NL - I'm looking at going to Sharm next year, probably in May or maybe Oct. Can't decide between Red Sea Holiday Village and Aqua Blu. I think the pools look better at Aqua Blu but the Holiday Village is a higher star rating.

Did you do AI? Was the food good? Did you get Egypt tummy?
