Eurostar and Metro tickets

Hi All

I am due to travel on Thurs am on Eurostar and have a ticket from St Pancras to Grenoble. I will have to change in Paris (Gare du Nord - Gare de Lyon), the question is, do I have to buy a metro ticket, or will my through ticket suffice? I know the metro tickets are only ?1.60, but my through ticket allows me a mere 42 minutes to get across Paris, which is possible, but tight.

Thanks in advance!

Found out from Eurostar that I will need a Metro ticket...he thought I might be able to buy a ticket at St Pancras to save time. Time will tell!

Of course you need a ticket. 42 minutes is just about enough- if you're planning on changing from line 5 to line 1 at Bastille, do check first as they're doing renovation work and I think some lines don't stop there at the moment.

If they don't have metro tickets at St Pancras (they sometimes do, but just in case), you could also try the buffet car on the train - we bought ours there on the way to Paris a couple of weeks ago.

Otherwise, the queues in Gare du Nord are pretty horrendous. We've got round that before by using the machines which take cards only (not as popular) and as we had a Nationwide account were not charged for using Visa debit there.
Good luck!

At least I know the options now.

Winnybella - as I have bought a through ticket, I initially assumed that it would cover the Metro too. It works like that in London. However, I stand corrected.

On the RER it is supposed to take 8 minutes. I have done the trip before, and it is the ticket machines that scare me. Will check out the bufet car.
