Legoland discovery manchester - huge disappointment

Just a heads up to anyone considering going here. We went last Wednesday en route further South and it was incredibly disappointing. We used Tesco vouchers to get in which softened the blow somewhat but I was still really annoyed and unimpressed with the place. The queues to get in were ridiculous; we at least got the faster queue in as we had the vouchers (the fast line also works for pre-booked tickets). Even so, I reckon we waited half an hour to get in. This is because they insist you do the factory "tour" - ie, they herd about 30 of you into an enclosed space whilst a staff member pretends to be a mad professor and you spend 5 minutes learning how lego is made.
The rest of the place is a glorified soft play but much more expensive to get into.
They were charging £4.25 for a kid's lunch box which, if I remember correctly contained a fruit shoot, small ham or cheese roll, packet of crisps and a bit of fruit.
The best bit was the 4D cinema; it was very good.
The place is much smaller with much less to do than the map would have you think. It was mobbed when we were there and it's safe to say we didn't enjoy it, I think it would have cost about £40 for 2 kids and 2 adults to get in.
The shop was also really disappointing - my kids were really keen to buy some Toy Story 3 lego but all they had were the £20, 30 and £50 sets - no little individual figures or any pocket money stuff. I spoke to a staff member to see if they had any more stock and he basically just shrugged and said that's all they had.
I left a really unhappy online questionnaire and really hope that they contact me to discuss it. I just feel that it's a bit of a rip off, especially compared to Legoland Windsor.
Hope this helps someone!

eeeeks, we are going tomorrow. booked now so will just have to get on with it! A few people have been disappointed but I think that is the way it will be if you have been to the Windsor one.

Well I agree sort of.

The intention is there, but it's just all too small and lack lustre, with surly staff. Good idea, teriible shitty unLego-like excecution.

Legoland Discovery Centre should also be done under the trades descrition act, there us nothing legoLAND -ish about it. Lego Discovery Centre would be more appropriate.

The thing that was the worst, was how dirty everything was eg: models in the queue for the cafe all covered in thick scummy dust.

I could go on, but I doubt they will listen.

DS2 who is 8 and Lego mad was very disappointed with it, I doubt any Lego will be on his Xmas kist this year.

I work for the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester and am concerned to hear all your worries.

I will certainly pass your feedback on and try to get back to you individually.

We have made a video which shows what the Centre is like and what is included. This should give you a better idea of what is there before you go.

Please let me know if it helps or if you have any more issues.

Trimblina,
I filled out an online form specifically asking someone to contact me about how disappointed and annoyed I was and have heard zip nearly a month later.

Just to add to this thread.

We went on the very last day of my DCs summer holidays. It is ridiculously over priced for what it is - £13.95 per adult and i think £10.95 per child. We too had vouchers and would not have liked to pay a penny more!!

There were no queues though as we went late in the day.

There should be an option to participate in the "factory" section. My DCs have done it now and already wondering why they would have to do it again. Having said that, they did like the lego piece they got given.

After that the model buildings look FAB but where is the excitement for a child?

The 4D cinema was very good despite it showing Bob the builder instead of SPellbreaker (or something) but the softplay is tiny and for much older children. Yes there are provisions for babies but that didn't mean anything to my 2 year old!

We didn't do the workshop either because "there was no point for 2 children" Hmm

The shop could have had a better stock of smaller, cheaper sets. We don't all have £100 to spend on a house made of bricks!

What is the room with the dots on the floor all about?

The ride was good though. The DCs were allowed on a few times because it was quiet but i point blank refuse to spend £10 on a photo. I'm not at a theme park after all!

With a few tweaks this could be amazing for lego obsessed children.

Good idea though.
