Sailing (with children) at Easter next year....

As my current holiday (the one I'm on at the moment) has been such a wash out, I'm planning our next one.....

We can go the week before Easter and were looking at Sunsail - but they aren't open then.

Can anyone suggest a holiday where we can all sail (ie with a good kids club offering supervised sailing) but open in April

TIA

Have you tried Mark Warner, Neilson or Minorca Sailing Holidays?

What about Sunsail's Colonna resort? I think they're pretty much open all year. DH and I went a couple of years ago and loved it.

What do you sail ?

katymac · 24/08/2005 16:47

DD just did her first solo in an Optimist - so I want to encourage her as much as possible.

We have a mirror - but can't sail it as we are having problems getting a jockey wheel on the launch trolley (I can't lift it by myself)

i rang Sunsail and they said they weren't open at Easter....

Mark Warner can't do anything
Neilson aren't open until May
Sunsail maintain that they aren't open then
And Minorca don't open until May Bank holiday

Bu&&er

i am sure some Sunsails are open then. a friend went to Antigua with Sunsail last February.

I presume you want a holiday abroad not in the UK?

Fennel · 24/08/2005 17:16

how old are your children katymac and are they good swimmers?

am waiting for dds to be older and to be competent swimmers - i think this could be a long time though.

katymac · 24/08/2005 17:19

Antigua is over £4000

DD will be 8 and can currently swim 400m (well that's her badge)

Yes abroad - I need sunshine

Have you tried Club Med

or maybe something Tenerife or Lanzarote, Thailand

Minorca Sailing is brilliant by the way, new equipment, fun instructors, warm shallow bay...

katymac · 24/08/2005 17:59

Lemonice - it's closed
I'll try Clubmed

Still nothing - will I have to go to a travel agents and get a brochure (and contribute to de-forestation)

My brother went sailing in the Greek Islands round about then. I'll try and get the company- not one of those already mentioned.

katymac · 24/08/2005 20:32

Thanks Sammac

Got it

here

Don't know if the dates will be suitable, but he raved about it. His kidds are 10 and 7 and they had a fantastic time. They went into little villages not accessible by road and moored up beside the little tavernas there.

Hope that helps

sammac · 24/08/2005 20:39

Don't think the club med ones in the med(!)are open at that time of year. Probably have to go further afield- maybe Eilat.

katymac · 24/08/2005 20:43

Thank Sammac, I'm struggling finding something on shore but with sailing for my DD, (& maybe DH!)

If you're prepared to go last minute then Colonna (Antigua) is a lot cheaper, there's no way we could have afforded to go at full list price!

Errmmm...if you have nice thick steamers to wear another option is Plas Menai. The weather might be a bit bracing, but the quality of the teaching & sailing is excellent:

Another good place is here:

ICC, Salcombe

I love Mirrors. My first boat was a Mirror...aaah those were the days

katymac · 24/08/2005 20:49

Nah - I need heat and I'll never get DH in a boat if it's even slightly cold.

I'm hoping to imtroduce him to it gently before expecting him to join us ever weekend inspite of the weather

you softy sailors

OK, will keep thinking...

katymac · 24/08/2005 20:51

We will sail in the broads as soon as he is hooked....and DD is great at it (so far)

This is the link to the club med winter programme. Can't vouch for any of them- only one I've been to is a summer one.

Can you tell I love holidays

sammac · 24/08/2005 20:53

Love the broads too!!

Fennel · 24/08/2005 20:59

my friend who went to Antigua also got a discount as it was term time - about 1/3 off. still rather expensive though.

katymac · 24/08/2005 21:01

I think Antigua is out of the question but Club med might do I just need to understand their website

chonky · 24/08/2005 21:02

Sail France is another possible option, I can't see from the site whether they are open at Easter though:

sail france

Maybe buy a copy of Y&Y and look at the classifieds? There's normally heaps of holiday places being advertised.

katymac · 24/08/2005 21:09

i download the brochure and it doesn't open til May - however the Club Med one is open at Christmas - so I might book then

Katymac- the club med website takes a bit of getting used to. If you click on the village you like it will prob be the summer season. You need to go to the winter brochure for your dates. trial and error I'm afraid.
