Haven't been myself but have heard good reports about Falkensteiner hotels.

Doodleydoo · 02/08/2010 19:02

Oh bad luck, Porto Sani is very nice, have a look at the Quo Vadis website for some more ideas of hotels:

Confused - no, haven;t been to Sani or to a Falkensteiner but heard good reports of both. A MNer went here

Yes have been to Porto Sani village, like all Greek destinations you don't go for the food as such but there are some very nice restaurants. We really enjoyed it and many of our friends have been there on our recommendation and loved it. Are you able to get into the Kids Club? It was very good and worth it, also pre book babysitters if you can if you want to go out. Not sure without the kids club what there is for kids to do but play on the beach and by the pool, which part are you going to?

The village is lovely, Asterias suites are expensive but v nice, didn't spend much time at the other 2, village and Asterias being near the marina are the better options - the village rooms having a suite aspect so you can put dc in the suite side to sleep if you want to without them being in your room.

notsleepingthrough Can I ask how much you paid? Sorry for being cheeky but we asked last year and was quoted £16k for two weeks all inclusive (that was for 2 adults and a 8-month-old). Yup, you heard right £16000! In the end, we went to the Maldives for 2 weeks all inclusive at Bandos for £3600. In the end it was more like £5K as DH and I had many massages (and he took 3 dive courses!). And the kids' club was FREE! I would thoroughly recommend Bandos if you don't mind the flight. It was heaven.

notsleepingthrough · 03/08/2010 09:07

mmm...that sounds very nice.
well we had one quote for one week at the porto sani village

b &b £6610.00 half board £ 7548.00

kids on put you up beds. I must be out of touch then as I thought this was expensive

Mind you, my quote was inclusive of flights and through a 'baby-friendly' company that advertises here... so they probably put a hefty fee on top of it all. Ouch! I just couldn't believe people would pay that. I would rather suffer a 12-hour flight to be honest! Have fun and come back and report on if it is worth all the £££!

www.eaglespalace.gr/luxury-hotel-resort.php

A rather nice hotel with mini club!

Shop around on some of the discount websites for a more reasonable price - you might price check on tripadvisor!

notsleepingthrough · 03/08/2010 09:52

Not sure we are going yet! concerned about temperature now - really don't want kids out in 100 degrees.

looked at that eagle palace place - it has had basically diabolical reviews on tripadvisor - rarely seen a hotel slated quite as much so put me off it.

I definitely did not pay that much to go to the Porto Sani Village 0 and nice as it is I think that is quite pricey tbh as you do still have to pay for the kids club AND for some of the food if you aren't doing half board!

Lets put it this way, we went for 2 weeks in September (I know not peak!) with all food and drink included AND spa treatments AND kids club we definitely paid less than half of your first quote and we didn't go half board!

I don't think I would pay that much for it, would prefer a longer flight at go to Mauritius or Maldives with the children, try the Prince Maurice, that was nice.........

(I am most jealous - we definitely don't have the sort of available cash that we used to have any more so aren't having a holiday but am glad that we went to 2 nice places in the past!)

notsleepingthrough · 03/08/2010 10:13

mmm it is what I thought - they charge a lot as it is peak season but because it is fantastic.

It just seems a bit obscene when so many others have so little (I know I am a bit odd thinkig lik tis but that's me).

We booked to go to Bandos with Thomson and it was a lot cheaper doing it that way rather than book Bandos direct. For the price I told you, we actually got one of their deluxe rooms, which was massive and open plan separate living / bedroom spaces. Thomson flights are rubbish but if we had done the booking separate (we wanted a direct flight to Male and that would really limit who we can fly with), it would have cost about £5K for just accommodation and flights alone. And we went during the holidays too, last two weeks of August. There was a bit of rain in the first week but that was quite nice as it made the island nice and cool.

notsleepingthrough · 03/08/2010 12:00

Sounds like you got fab deal. Would there be enough to do there for 4 and 3 year old do you think?

We went when DS1 was 18 months old and we wished he was over three! Ok, the kids' club rooms aren't big but there is a separate sleeping area and also, there is an upstairs den where they can watch cartoons in comfy chairs. There's also an outdoors playground for the kids attached to the kids' club. For kids over three, they have organised activities everyday, which my DS couldn't join in. They did things like go to the beach, swimming in the pool etc. Dinner started at 6pm but if you wanted to eat earlier, the kids' meals were free (ok, it's just pasta, fish fingers etc but it was good enough for the kiddies) at one of the restaurants. In the early evenings, they also do things for the kids like crab racing, magic show and disco. Because it isn't a huge resort packed full of kids, it wasn't all-singing and all-dancing but I thought it was really nice in a small scale way. The staff at the kids' club are lovely too. Mostly ladies from the Philippines, they are very warm and speak English well. I really trusted them with my DS. And they also do babysitting outside of the kids' club hours, which you pay extra for... We gave them a huge tip when we left as we felt really bad that we didn't have to pay for the kids' club. I think at 3 and 4 years of age, they will probably be happy doing swimming, hunting crabs on the beach, building sandcastles etc!

Doodleydoo · 03/08/2010 14:24

I am jealous and want to go there - will be looking up the bandos to save up for! I think what you have been quoted for Porto Sani is quite steep in comparison to what this holiday sounds like!

notsleepingthrough · 03/08/2010 19:59

agreed - am going to bookmark that holiday - I just dont think I can justify the cost of Port Sani now. Maybe a bigger holidy at half term or Christmas (anyone would think we go away a lot - we have n't had any break for nearly 3 years).
