Please help me with a Phenergan question

We are flying to NZ on Friday. Dd is 16 months old.
Many of you and others have recommended trying phernergan for the long flight. This hv also suggested this.
Now I can't bloody get it over the counter, although the hv said I could.
I have asked for paediatric phenergan. Dd is prone to eczmema and flares up regulaely so I wanted it for that anyway.

Any suggestions?

I thought you could too. I think it might be because it's for over 2 years only (although you can give them a smaller dose if they are younger). How many pharmacists have you tried?
Also, if you do get some, try it out first, with some kids it can send them the other way i.e. hyper.

Now I have just spoken to a GP on the phone and she said phenergan is only a sedative.
This has shocked me because even I know it's an antihistamine and I have a BNF right here infront of me confirming it !!

No can do. She's too young.

I have a prescription for Piriton instead.

I used phenergan for my dd for its antihistamine use and for sedative use when she was 20 months old. I got it off my doctor just before i flew out. Piriton is ok but if like mine your child has exema then im sure they become tolerant to it! Go back to your HV and ask her to have a word with your gp.

I think I might have blown it now. They know what I want it for

I have bought some over the counter. Our daughter was prescribed it for eczema and we went on holiday without it. Got it in Boots with no problem. It can be used for allergies, as a sedative and for travel sickness too.

Nixz · 24/08/2005 12:53

Gillian - you bought this recently?
Boots is great, my gp told me that dd could not have a antihistamine which is non drowsey as she was too young, boots have a non drowsey formula for kids - good ol' boots!

Hmm, maybe about 18 months ago

i have been given phenargen for pregnancy sickness and it is an anti histimine, and is very effective, however you could try sturgeron which is avaliable over the counter(also known on prescription as cinnarizine), its very effective too and not very sedating.
