Ideas for days out in and around Newcastle/Northumberland

I am hoping someone will have some good ideas for family days out that will appeal to both my 6yr dd and 9yr ds.

I would love to find a good adventure park etc suitable for both.

I used to childmind so have been to all the usual places 99 times and even the kids are getting a little weary

All suggestions appreciated.

Seven stories is awesome. Ummm - centre for life? Sea life centre at tynmouth? Hamsterly forest has an outdoor place you can go to, chopwell woods to follow the bike trail? The sage does good children's events too and often free / fairly inexpensive! Will cone back if I think
of anything else

wet and wild? - fab waterpark just north of the river

Oooh just remembered tanfield railway - my children always loved it there. You can ride the steam train to causey arch, picnic there and then get the steam train back. It's also quite good for a rainy day too as can just stay on the train and ride up and down the track to your hearts content.

Diggerland?

stillfindingtheway · 01/08/2010 20:35

We have not done a couple of the places suggested so will def try them out, I am always looking for hidden gems! We found the forbidden corner in North Yorks fantastic but it seems everyone else already knew about it and hadnt told us!

Hall Hill Farm between Lanchester and Satley is fantastic.

South Shields! The playground just opposite the beach is great - not just swings and stuff but it has an Archimedes screw, play digger machine and other interesting and unusual bits; it's by far the best playground I know. Obv there's other things to do while you're in Shields (pedalos, fairground type thing, bowling etc).

Apparently Blanchland is good on Bank Holiday weekend, but I've never been so can't personally recommend.
