Liverpool - where to "do lunch" with toddlers?

Basically I need to visit the passport office but have decided to make an adventure of th day trip so I'm taking my 1 and 3 yr old with me on the train. I have never been before so have no idea where would be good to eat or if there are any "must sees" whilst we are there. Any MN Liverpudlians who can help?

Am not a liverpudlian but with my kids if in doubt I head for a John Lewis as they normally have lunch boxes or something similar for £2.50-ish with a selection of nice things in. There is a JL in Liverpool but can't tell you if it is near the Passport office.
cuaght out with the Passports.. I know so many people who have had thishappen. My child minder had to delay her holiday.
good luck

Thanks Tarzanna - John Lewis is probably a safe bet, any ideas about where I could take them to entertain them?

Would they like the ferry? Mine loved it when we went - they were about 5 and 3 at the time.

iirc the passport office is on water street and the train station i presume will be lime street?
that might be quite a walk for a little one....
water street is up near the river...so possibly a ferry across the mersey(and back??)
take some things to do at the passport office(and some nibbles)as it's on a high floor in an office block and i've never been in and out quickly yet.....
try upmystreet or aa route finder for a map of the city centre postcode L1?

Sorry to hijack.Hi Chatee how are you?

The ferry would be cool if it's not too far to walk. my kids are 1 and 3 but I plan to take my "phil and Teds" buggy in case my eldest gets tired. Thanks for responding. I've looked on the web and Liverpool looks to have some v good shopping but probably not advisable with the dinkies in tow!

Jen just to warn you there are major roadworks in pretty much the whole of the city centre so leave yourself plenty of time. The pastport office is on the outskirts of the city centre but it is not too far to walk into. The Ferry or the Albert dock will probably be the best places if the weather is dodgy go to the Albert dock as there is a lot of shelter.

if you are going to the passport office then a trip on the ferry and maybe a visit to the maritime museum. if the weather is nice it is nice just walking along the promenade by the river. its only about a 10 /15 minute walk from there up to the city centre. there you have all the shops and also the proper musueum which has an aquarium and lots of other good stuff to look at(free)
there is a nandos in town which is quite child friendly, a big john lewis which has a cafe, and all your burger king / macdonalds etc.

Thanks everyone - what would I do without MN? Just got to hope I fill out the dreaded form without any mistake now!
