Right have spent some time pricing this up and I think its the best I can get at the moment but just want to check:

14 nights at October half term, disneyworld florida, animal kingdom lodge standard room (no savannah view) includes all disney park entry for 14 days, includes disney meal plan for 14 days, includes day at discover cove plus dolphin swim for 2 adults (not children who are too young), includes unlimited trips to seaworld. car hire for day of arrival, day of departure and 2 days in middle (for seaworld) 2 adults 2 children

£6100

This sounds an awful lot for one holiday once I add it altogether!! Is itabout right?

It sounds a lot but Disney is very expensive! However there are loads of great deals on tickets, I think as a uk citizen you can get 14 days for the price of 7 etc.

Have you been on the DIBB website? Lots of advice.

By the way when are you going? We are going in Oct too but not sure if we are avoiding UK half term as we don't live in the UK at the moment.

Gay40 · 21/07/2010 19:25

It sounds a lot to me, as ours cost a third of that without the tickets which cost us about £700 ish normally

littleredsquirrel · 21/07/2010 20:25

Hmm thougt that was a good price but maybe not!

aaagh now I'm confused! I think its the best price I can get. Hotel is much cheaper than through disney, tickets are same as through disney, discovery cove is cheapest I can find. food is free.

how do you manage to do it for £2k for four people gay40? the flights alone are more than that!

I don't know, that's the deal we got through the agent, and it was a grand cheaper than we'd got the year before.
The only catch was that it had to be paid up front in full to get that price. But even then, I wouldn't pay more than 3k.
I honestly do think it depends on the day you book it.
Also ours does not include food, but we don't eat much as a family

thephoenix · 21/07/2010 22:25

It is an awful lot however, A) you are staying at a Disney hotel and B) Discovery cove is VERY expensive.
We are also going in October and I'd thought about Discovery cove but that was going to be around 1k for us which is an awful lot when we'd also have to fork out for various parks. DC 1 and 2 want to do Universal and Aquatica whereas we will need to take DC3 and 4 to MK and Hollywood Studios. God only knows how much it is going to cost.

Gay40 · 21/07/2010 22:37

This year, I'm going to get our Disney tickets through various combinations of ebay purchases.

ElizabethWakefield · 21/07/2010 22:48

I'm just back from 15 days in Florida and I didn't spend as much as that but we didn't stay on-site at disney, we had a villa. We also didn't do discovery cove.

I only paid for DD and I (we were there with friends and their children) but I was

£1020 on Flights
£175 for our share of the villa (was £700 for 2 weeks but split between 4 families)
£175 for car hire for 14 days (15 seater price split between 4 families)
£620 for tickets (14 days unlimited in both Disney and universal) So just under £2k for us.

littleredsquirrel · 22/07/2010 13:35

Right managed to get it down to 5350 by flying out of a diffrent airport so slightly better.

Could save another £900 by staying in an all star hotel rather than animal kingdom lodge. Also means quick service meals all fortnight though rather than table service.

Is the better hotel that much better??

I have to be honest, I looked at the hotels on disney and I looked at them off and I really think you get so much better value for money (if that is what you want) if you stay off-site.

Lots of people favour a villa, but we went for a lovely suites hotel on I-drive (Homewood Suites)- about 20 minutes drive in in the morning, a huge, free breakfast, free beer, wine and food in the evening, free wireless internet, 2 rooms, kitchen - and all for a fraction of the price of staying on-site. We stayed there in May and I am probably going to book it again for our October visit.

You may have your reasons for wanting to stay in a disney hotel (extra magic hours etc) but have you considered this?

thephoenix · 22/07/2010 16:54

stranded makes a very good point. I suppose if you want the 'specialness' of staying in a Disney hotel, you have to pay for that but you can save so much money but booking a private villa. You can get a 4 bedroom villa with private pool (and sometimes a gamesroom) within 4 miles from Disney from around 400 GBP per week. Might be worth looking into
Have a look at www.loyaltyusa.com

Thanks stranded, it llooks good but just costed it up and it works out more expensive.

The flights are £2700 for four of us. The accomodation at animal kingdom lodge plus disney dining plan plus free car hire is £1250.

The homewood suites work out at $2200 plus then we'd have to pay for car hire and food on top.

I will have a look at villas but think we might end up in the same position i.e. disney being cheaper. Its because the food plan and car hire are free.

Hello Red Squirrel, we have just booked today so here are our costs:

£5668

Family of 4 (2 x dd's but one is 11 so more expensive for theme park tickets)

Staying standard at Animal Kingdom Lodge
14 day disney tickets
14 day Orlando flex ticket plus (6 parks plus the coaches)

Flying from Manchester September - 2 weeks - not in half term. 2011 of course, not this year !

Also on the Disney Dining Plan (table service) so we can do charachter meals etc)

We did DLP last year which was £1200 for 5 days as we did dining deluxe and booked for extras.

For DLP I wanted to do it and do the best I could, so yes I paid more but it was amazing, same for WDW, I am paying more than a villa/car however want to do it the best way I can......would have loved to have done a savannah room in AKL but can't quite manage an extra 1k !!!!!

Bet you will have an amazing time!
