in hand luggage?

and can you pack them in your suitcase or would they explode dramatically all over your clothes in transit?

I hope so as I'm planning on taking them away with us in 8 days time. Just bought loads!!

savoycabbage · 21/07/2010 08:50

As long as they are under 100mls each you will be able to take them in your hand luggage. If they are over 100mls and classed as a liquid but for the consumption of a baby, like formula, you may be asked to taste every one.

You can take any amount in your checked luggage. I don't know if they would blow up though!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 21/07/2010 09:00

I'd check first.

DS has food allergies, so brought lots of food for on board, and ironically the stuff they took off us was the packaged stuff on the basis they couldn't open it and test it.

AlCrowley · 21/07/2010 09:18

Once opened, they go off within a couple of hours if not refridgerated so they'd be a complete waste if you have to open and taste them all.

The one's I have are between 100 and 140g. They're not measured in mls.

I took a couple of the fruit ones to turkey and they made me taste one of them at security.

Revupk · 21/07/2010 09:32

I took some on my trip to california. Had to taste one at security. (Recommend getting a fruit one for tasting)

mumofsatan · 21/07/2010 09:32

I've taken them a few times and they tend to select random ones to taste, I think maybe 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 so hopefully you will be ok.
I'm pretty sure I'm packed them in hold luggage too and they've been ok but I'd put them in a plastic bag just to be on the safe side

loopyloops · 21/07/2010 09:36

I took them as hand luggage and wasn't asked to taste them, in fact they looked at me oddly when I took them out in a clear plastic bag. I'm not sure if they really count as liquid? Does it depend on if they are the more lumpy variety?

Anyhow, take a couple as hand luggage and the rest in the hold (I put a lot inside the travel cot, safe from harm and no excess baggage i you've paid to take a travel cot!).

AlCrowley · 21/07/2010 09:49

I think I'll double bag the majority and put it in the hold luggage and just take the days worth in hand luggage (with a fruit one for tasting ) We're only going to Portugal so if they do all explode, I'll be able to buy stuff out there anyway.

What about you OP?

LadySanders · 21/07/2010 16:11

not so worried about taking them in hand baggage as only got a short flight, but wanted to have a few handy for when we get there as don't want to be rushing to supermarket the minute we arrive... will double bag in suitcase and hope for the best re leakage!

I have done both - hand luggage and hold in plastic bags, always fine. I was asked once to taste them all but was the bigger pouches and this was a while ago. I normally try and take the slightly smaller ones now. I have always put them in the tray up front with waterbotles, watches belts etc. Recently went to France from Stansted and they made me taste the water bottles but weren't bothered about the pouches (they were the larger ones, I only had two).

Pouches have always been fine in my hold luggage but I always wrap them in a plastic bag just in case.

I've taken the fruit & veg ones to Australia, as both hand luggage and in my main luggage. They do definitely qualify as liquid though so only take enough in your cabin luggage that will fit into the small plastic bag you have to put them in (although if there are 3 of you then you will have 3 small plastic bags' allowance)

No problems in either case - although the Customs lady in Australia was a bit surprised that some contained strawberry - in case of allergies, you know. (DS was only 10mo at the time)

They don't go off that quickly and they didn't explode (although I had them in a carrier bag just in case)

Off to tenerife tomorrow and worried about how my 8 month old will manage with timings as we will land when she usually goes to bed for the night. She is so routine at home. Any advice or tips?? So nervous!!Confused

Hersetta427 · 05/05/2017 14:55

For me routines go out of the window on holiday - we eat when we want and go to bed much later so they can watch the entertainment and shows and they have always gone straight back to their routines when at home.

Holidays are meant to be holidays...not hard work sticking to a perfect routine!
