which area of Paris should we stay in?

DH and I are having a child free weekend in Paris for my 40th in November. We've been looking at hotels etc but there is just so much to choose from. So I thought I'd start by making a decision on an area to stay in.

We are planning on a museum/pottering/walking weekend, and would like our hotel to be near a few places to eat/drink that offer more steak frites/bistro/crepes type food rather than Michelin standard restaurants. Also places for breakfast would be good. So I was thinking of either Montmartre or Latin Quarter area. Am I on the right track? How seedy is Montmartre, some of the tripadvisor reviews of hotels make it seem dead dodgy.

If anyone has ideas of hotels in nice areas, that would be great too ! Thanks!

That looks nice AlaskaNebraska.

I'll look more at the Marais, I'd not seen anything about there. I had been mainly looking at 5th, 6th and 18th arrondissements, but will widen my search.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

We've been to Paris a few times and we liked this hotel, although it was a few years ago: www.kleberhotel.com/index-gb.htm
Trip Advisor is very good for reviews of places, and Laterooms.com usually has some special deals on.
We like Montmartre a lot - think there's an Ibis Hotel within walking distance of the bottom of Montmartre, near the Flunch self-service restaurant, but if it's your 40th, you are probably looking to splash out a bit : ) Feeling very envious, enjoy Paris!! Don't forget to sneak in a visit to Patisserie Paul, they are a chain and they are everywhere (train stations included) and they make fantastic cakes, pain au chocolat, etc.
