Driving in Europe - do you bother buying breakdown cover?

We are driving to Europe this summer for the first time

My parents always bought breakdown cover but they drove old bangers and we needed it on more than one occasion

Our car is newish, hardly any miles - would you buy the breakdown cover?

Thanks everyone - just paid £36 for 2 weeks' cover with Green Flag. RAC trying to charge £80

What did I do before MN?

Just paid a similar amount for a Tesco policy. Let's hope we don't actually need to call upon it, eh?!

Yes we always get breakdown cover and also make sure you have the green card from your own insurance company which may cost a little more.

Case in the paper last week where they only bought breakdown cover, but didn't inform their own insurance to get the green card and their car was swept away in floods. They weren't covered by either insurance.
