Hi here. Would you believe I still haven't booked a holiday at all? We're a family of 4, dc are 3 and 6. We would like them to find other children to play with. I need a break from shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry. I would like to be surrounded by niceness and have comfortable accommodation; tents or tiny tatty mobile homes are a no no. I haven't had a decent holiday since before my children were born. We do not stand the heat particularly well so don't want anywhere too got. Don't care about spors at all. I do love visiting nice villages and towns.
Sooooooooo, bearing all that in mind, can anyone reccommend a holiday in Vendee/Brittany? Self-catering wouldn't work as I need a break from what I do every day!! Thanks so much.

What kind of budget?

AlwaysSickAndTired · 19/07/2010 15:45

No more than 2K for at least 10 days? Or is that not enough?

Have a look at this for some ideas.

Thank you Drayford. Hotel seems lovely but not much there for children? I wonder, is there such a thing as a 4/5 star hotel with kids activities somewhere in France that isn't too hot?

Hi Always, have you looked at Logis de France (www.logisdefrance.com). These are family owned hotels right across France. You can filter the search to look for things like swimming pools and playgrounds.

In our experience these wont be smart but most of the ones we have stayed in have excellent restaurants. The only problem is that it is very late to be looking for this year especially for family rooms. You might be lucky though.

My experience of 4/5 start hotels in France has not been that great as they seemed to be convenient but totally soulless.

BTW mobile homes with the big companies arent normally tatty. What you could look at is a campsite with restaurant so catering is covered. My experience of holidaying with small children is that self-catering is a lot easier than trying to manage behaviour in a hotel.

I think Suzie has a point tbh. If you look here you can see the sort of self catering accn available in your budget in the sort of areas of France you are interested in. MUCH more space than a hotel.

Cereal for breakfast. Sarnie for lunch - and eat out for dinner. DH does the dishes.

A lot of sites will have kids clubs as well.

Or stay in the UK and try here - however probably top dollar for school holidays. I have been here though and it is nice, and in a lovely area.

What about this place www.country-kids.fr

Seems pretty popular and may be booked but worth a try.
