We want to go for a nice sunny beach holiday next year, but dh doesn't want to do Spain or any of it's islands as we have done them!! We were thinking of Turkey but have heard it is VERY hot in August. Any suggestions? We would like child-friendly but not full of 'Irish Pubs' and 'English Breakfasts' IYSWIM?

hmm isnt everywhere baking in august? I suppose you go somwwhere thats slightly windy so it mitigates the heat - like the cost in tunisia...

omnishambles · 18/07/2010 10:12

or even the coast

Yep, I appreciate everywhere will be hot but apparently Turkey can be nearly in the 40s, so a bit too hot.

What about somewhere like the canaries or the Verde islands - arent they the same temp pretty much all year - though the sun will be very strong.

how about Austria - warm in the day (mid to late twenties) but nice and cool in the evenings or the scandinavian countries. The alpine regions of France and Italy also warm but not baking hot in the day and cooler at night.

Tunisia in August is Roasting omnishambles! I think you would have to do a lakes and mountains type holiday ?

SlartyBartFast · 20/07/2010 23:14

or bulgaria?
that neck of the woods.

omnishambles · 21/07/2010 22:23

tsk

Ok then that posh Ile-de-Ré, the island near La Rochelle.

The Vendee region of France is also good for reliable weather but a bit cooler than the Med coast

Austria is perfect in August, plenty of clean lakes to swim in, Bavaria is good too. If you like mountains and lakes, the South Tyrol (in northern Italy) is good too, although English tends not to be spoken, the local speak their own languages (German and Italian).
