Best way to get discounts on domestic flights?

We haven't flown anywhere for years, but now need to get from Hampshire to North East for a wedding in September, without taking any time off school, so flying is the only option. The most suitable flights seem to be Flybe from Southampton to Newcastle, but for a family of 4 according to the Flybe website this will be more than £500. Is this about right? Are there any good ways of getting discounts? Many thanks

Sadly it's difficult to get discounts for domestic flights unless you book ages ahead. Flybe often look cheap but can be expensive when you actually book (taking into account luggage charges etc) but they are a pretty reliable airline. Alternatively, have you checked out the possibility and costs of travelling by train?

Thank you, I was going to look at the train too, but it's a long way and we would have had to travel late into the night Friday, with young DCs. However we have had a stroke of luck, my parents have offered me some airmiles which we can use with BA from Heathrow and will cover most of the cost, so that looks the most likely option, Heathrow and Southampton are about equal distances for us.

Yes I noticed that flybe look cheap then you see all the extras added in! It seems the days of truly cheap flights are over.
