Passport - is it really taking 3 weeks?

We want to go and see inlaws at the beginning of September - almost exactly 6 weeks - with 2-week old DS.

we thought we had a problem in that when we got DD's passport the waiting time was 6 weeks. I've just looked on the website and it's saying three weeks. Is it taking that long really?

Thanks. Sorry for errors - feeding DS.

I got ours in less than a week about 2 weeks ago

LaTrucha · 16/07/2010 20:07

Without paying for the fast service?

That was via the Post Office checking service. So £8 extra (mug) but not fast service

LaTrucha · 16/07/2010 20:11

Great! Sounds good. Thanks.

Me too - exactly a week from the post office checking it to it arriving two weeks ago

DaisySteiner · 16/07/2010 20:13

We got them within a week without using the post office checking service.

nowwearefour · 16/07/2010 20:14

i got mine in about 9 days without paying for any checking or using any extra services. they are being quick at the moment ! though worth ensuring the photo is correct by going to a professional photo company- they charge around £10 for 6 photos that are precisely correct around here. saves A LOT of grief.

PaulineCampbellJones · 16/07/2010 20:16

Two weeks here too using the £8 post office checking service.

LaTrucha · 16/07/2010 20:17

We're going to Jessops tomorrow. That ok?

This is sounding good.

dont know about Jessops - ask if they have the post office guide thingie for photos. of course is easier for your baby as eyes can be shut when they are so little. but still strict stipulations re size of head in photo etc. am sure it will be fine. enjoy your trip!

Jessops are fine - did mine

buttonmoon78 · 16/07/2010 22:48

I did dd2s at the post office using the £8 charge (bearing in mind if you use special delivery it'll cost a min of £5 anyway so seemed fool, ish not to). It was sent on the Fri, back the following Wed. That was about 10 days ago.

CHUNKYMUNKEY · 16/07/2010 22:52

Got first passports for my 2 dds, paid special delivery (£4 roughly) not check and send, got passports back 10 days later and they sent it by motorbike courier which i wasn't expecting, was very impressed

LaTrucha · 17/07/2010 12:37

Check and send took about 4 days 2 weeks ago I couldn't believe it as they said 10-14!

PestoEatsPasties · 17/07/2010 12:41

I think they do that to cover themselves.

RoseP · 17/07/2010 12:46

Sent mine through PO took 5 days don't panic! that was just over a week ago. Only problem was how shocking it was to the wallet! Have a good trip!

I sent off for DSs first passport (check and send) and got in in a week BUT they put the wrong date of birth on it so I have now sent it back!!!

dolphin13 · 20/07/2010 16:29

We got ours back in 9 days. They were renewals.
Normal post didn't use check and send.
