The Tailor of Gloucester's House

Can anyone in Gloucester or Cheltenham tell me about anything else to do with small children in Gloucester?

I'd like to plan a day out with the children to include the Tailor of Gloucester's House, but I strongly imagine this won't take all day! Anything else to do in the city that might entertain children of 6, 5 &4?

i live in the forest of dean which is about 20 miles from gloucester but we have some lovely things here fro kids that age.

Clearwell caves, puzzle wood, perrygrove miniature train

the tailor of gloucesters house will only take an hour at the very most if u draw it out

I second going to the Forest of Dean.....esp Puzzle Wood...many a childhood afternoon spent there!

If you're taking them to the Tailor of Gloucesters House (which is tiny), consider taking them just over the Close for a walk aroung the cathedral, especially the cloisters. (DH came from gloucester and we go there a lot to visit MIL, our DD always seems to enjoy doing this from being wee onwards. Some of it looks just like a Harry Potter set ).

The Waterways museum isn't bad either, and you can get a boat ride from there.

They might be a bit young for Nature in Art (just a couple of miles outside the city) but they do kids activities, have a playground and some of the sculptures in particular grab a child's imagination.

The folk museum is free and very good for children, lots to do including a room full of puzzles, playhouse, outsied area with toys. There is also the City Museum which is not quite as child friendly but they do sometimes let you go down the Roman ruins under Boots accompanied by a Roman soldier, which is good fun (and of course v educational).

Tailor of Glos will not take very long but you can look for the mice under the teacups which amuses my four year old.

The docks are good to walk round.

Is Slimbridge not far? We spent a fabulous few hours there recently.

Another vote for the folk museum - I've taken my DTSs there twice, and they enjoyed it. Cathedral also worth a look - they seem happy for children to tear around the cloisters, and bits of Harry Potter were filmed there (your DCs might be a bit young to appreciate that though)

For kids old enough for spiral stairs, you can sometimes go up the cathedral tower - there's a whispering gallery that really works.
