We are travelling from the north east to Perranporth in August and have decided it will prob be best to break up the journey. Can anyone recommend a nice mid range place to stay, perhaps with somewhere nice to eat attached - we were thinking we could probably get to Bristol/Cheltenham?? on the first day, and so not have as long a journey on the second. Don't want to deviate too far from main roads also. TIA

We went from Durham to nr falmouth last yr and stopped off in exeter which made for a far more pleasant last leg

Hi moulesfrites,
We went from newcastle to newquay in may and we stopped in the novotel in bristol for sixty five pounds for two adults and one child (its four stars and had everything we needed) with an Italian restaurant on same street or short walk to citys restaurants. We left very early (5am) and got there around noon (dp drives quite slow but lots of 50mph speed checks near sheffield).

On way back we stopped in Birmingham (hotel sooo not worth talking about)but our journey felt quite long!

Cheltenham is much nicer than Bristol, if that helps. I only know of the Queens hotel in Cheltenham, which is fine.

Exeter is going to make the first half of your journey very long. May I suggest Bath? It's a short diversion from your route yet it is very lovely indeed, a pretty town and has Roman Ruins as an added attraction.
