Disneyland Hotel or Hotel New York

Is it worth paying more for the Pink Palace? We are going for five days in September. 2 Adults, 1 6yo and a baby.

I have no patience so tend to spend money smoothing the edges but I can't really see that much difference between the hotels.

Pros/cons?

Disneyland Hotel is closer to everything, it's right in the park.

Have stayed in both. The New Yorker is 20 to 30 minutes walk away from the front gate (with a 6 yo). When staying at the Disneyland we used to go in early for the 2 hours earlybird if you are staying in the hotels, come out when it started to get busy, siesta, swim and then go back in when it started to get quiet - you couldn't do that at the New Yorker.

There is a noticeable difference in quality as well.

And you get far more characters at breakfast and just wanderign around in the Disneyland than you do in the New Yorker.

Disneyland every time for me.

Another vote for the disneyland hotel, having stayed at both. The fact that it is right at the gates is such an enourmous plus. The new york is very nice but also slightly 'grown up' we felt. It is also used as a conference centre. Yes you get loads more characters at disneyland hotel. If you can afford it, do it!

As others have said, the Disneyland Hotel is built over the DL Park entrance, and just a short walk from the Studios Park. It is a far more ' Disneyfied' Hotel than the New York- very pink and princessy.Guests staying here are given one instant Fastpass ticket each per day. ( Castle Club guests have a VIP fastpass for their whole stay.)Bedrooms are very pink, and rather luxurious, very ' girly'. We have often been inside for a look round, but my two sons have not wanted to stay here ( apart from when it is very cold in December, and we are walking back to the Sequoia Lodge or Newport Bay Club!)On the first floor, is a Princess area, where little girls can be made up, and choose a Princess dress ( for a fee).
This hotel is Luxury category, and the restaurants there are Premium HB category. Inventions restaurant has a Character Dinner buffet, and the California Grill is A La Carte Fine Dining.
The more you pay, the more Characters you get in your hotel!
The DLH and the New York are chalk and cheese as far as theming goes.
The New York is certainly more adult in appearance and atmosphere, with an art deco / Manhattan theme. Rather minimalistic, and not very 'Disney'.The hotel has a very large conference centre, so many of the guests are staying there on business conventions. The pools are deep.
With a baby especially,go for the Disneyland Hotel for the convenience and comfort. It is easy to pop back to the hotel from the park if you need something, or just need a rest.
We take 10 mins to walk through the Disney Village from the parks to the Hotel New York, so longer with a tired child, unless you end up carrying them, or catching the shuttle bus.

Have only stayed in DL hotel so can't compare, but wouldn't stay anywhere else.

As others have said, the location is a huge attraction so you can pop back quickly for a rest during the day without feeling that you're wasting time that you could be spending in the park.

Overall, the hotel is just lovely. Very cosy, old-world atmosphere. Rooms are big and very comfortable, staff are excellent, huge choice at breakfast of hot and cold food and great views into the park whilst you're having breakfast.

At Easter, we got up early to do EMH and then came back for breakfast at 10 and really appreciated the couple of minute walk back to the hotel.

There's a nice piano bar to have a drink or a coffee in the evening and a large seating area between it and the 2 restaurants where you'll often see the characters, morning and evening.

I would definitely spend the extra to stay there.

Enjoy!

The Disneyland Hotel pool is open 8am to 10pm. The other hotels pools do not open until 3pm now, and close at 10pm.They all used to be open all day, so I think DLP are economising at present.
The Newport Bay Club has the nicest pools IMO, but the outdoor one was not open at all when we were there last August, even though the weather was hot.The indoor one opened at 3pm.
When I asked why the outdoor pool was closed, I was told they did not have enough lifeguards.
Disney have also been economising in WDW Florida, cutting down on the number of shows etc, so even they are feeling the pinch.
