Hi
Can anyone give me the low down of things to remember about this period of history in France. I am trying to write about a woman who lived in a chateau. All information gratefully received (so I can research further). I don't want to get too heavily into politics but useful to mention I guess. Who would have influence over the local village/surrounding area etc. Religious orders =abbeys? Any information gratefully received.

Hello! I'm relatively new to MN and am also a history writer interested in early 17th century Germany. I'm sure there would be some overlap so happy to connect and share resources if you are interested.

Hello Delphinium, Sorry, I haven't replied sooner. I realised I needed to do a lot more reading and may make references to sugar plantation slavery (only a minor part of the book as other fiction books have been written on the subject.) Just wondering if anyone has read any good books about this topic and also the work of pamphleteers (both fiction and non fiction)? Or whether there are any good websites detailing these?

weirdly enough, I have found pinterest very useful. I'm interested in clothing in the Low Countries in the 16th century, as part of a wider interest in the period, and pinterest is full of useful stuff.
Also, try a site called Academia. It publishes academic papers online that you can download. You identify the period you're interested in, and they alert you when they come up.

Thank you MaMa. At one point I found ebay useful for describing Victorian household items too! Good tip about pininterest.

@Daphnesmate01 One work I found helpful was Alice Clark's Working Life if Women in the Seventeenth Century. Published 2010.

@Daphnesmate01 I haven't read this one, but it might help. The Economic Role of Women in Seventeenth Century France by James Collins.
