lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 17:16

An anglo saxon landowner - beginning with f (we think) 7 letters. I have been on internet for some time - no clue. Thanks.

Could it be folcfry?

OhMyActualDays · 14/12/2014 17:24

Freeman?

lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 17:25

may have e as 4th letter too.

lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 17:26

ok freeman looks good - could only freemen own land then?

OP posts:
OhBuggeringBollocks · 14/12/2014 17:28

Fiefdom? I know that's a part of land not an owner

Feoffee is an owner of a fiefdom? Would that fit?

OhBuggeringBollocks · 14/12/2014 17:28

A freeman would not have been under a feudal overlord - so no landlord effectively

MrsCakesPrecognition · 14/12/2014 17:30

folcfry = freeman.

Pantah630 · 14/12/2014 18:26

folkland

lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 18:27

if it is folcfry it gives problems for the clue which is mythical anglo saxon monster which I thought was grendell - anyone know any other monsters?

OP posts:
OhBuggeringBollocks · 14/12/2014 18:52

It's Grendel if that makes any difference? (Only one L)

lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 19:20

thanks - my mistake - that is what we had (weeps in corner what chance has my child got with me as the homework supervisor Grin)

OP posts:
YonicSleighdriver · 14/12/2014 19:22

The homework is a crosswird?

lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 19:44

yes - but a historical one - as a histry graduate I am alarmed that I find it too difficult Grin

OP posts:
YonicSleighdriver · 14/12/2014 20:03

Crosswords were invented in 1913, so subject and format don't match

Xmas Grin
lostinspace2014 · 14/12/2014 20:11
