Tudor history fans - what would you like to read about on a blog?

I've just started a blog, mainly to share the research for the YA historical novel I wrote last year & am doing for my next one. I did pots of research into lots of aspects of Tudor life and not all of it found its way into the book, so it seems like a good idea to put it out there!

I just wanted to ask if there are things in particular you'd be interested in reading about?

It's basically the everyday life aspects rather than the politics - there are already a million blogs out there doing the 'On this day in Tudor history...' and 'The truth about Anne Boleyn!' stuff and I'm much more interested in how everyone lived. I'm a former re-enactor so I tend to be quite practical in my approach (trying stuff out etc).

I'm kicking off with one on falconry and I'm going to do a regular thing on festivals because they're just so totally rich and complex and amazing. Is there anything you (or your kids) have always wondered about?

Thanks Smile

After years of living on the very edges of north Essex (borders with Herts, Suffolk and Cambs), I am about to move back to Maldon. So will be writing a lot about Maldon in the future!

Last year, my blog got spotted by a mainstream publisher of local history books so they've commissioned me to write three books. The first one I'm just about to deliver to them - so it'll be in the shops in about October/November. It's about a town in Herts.

My real passion is the lives of normal Tudor people and I use primary sources such as churchwarden accounts to write about things like pre-Reformation community festivals - boy bishops, Corpus Christi plays, the plough feast etc

I'm not a member of mumsnet bloggers. I keep meaning to look into it but never have any time

My blog is googable - type in the name of the county followed by Voices Past. That'll find me. Because of writing my book, I haven't had much time to write any recents posts (I used to post 3 times a week). But hopefully once I've delivered my book, I'll be able to get back to it.

Good luck with yours. I've absolutely loved doing mine and have made friends with people all over the world through it

SummertimeTOWIE's blog is great - I thoroughly recommend it! Easy to find using her instructions, too.

Thank you Tunip. I love writing it and hope to get back to writing posts for it soon.

I already have stuff on there about the Essex witchcraft trials of the mid-1500s - long before Matthew Hopkins was wrecking havoc in the county. I've also analysed a whole batch of Essex wills from the 1520s to the 1560s to see if a person's religious belief could be determined from their final bequests.

All great fun. I'd love to hear of other history bloggers. Or to see if we could get these types of blogs on mumsnet.

I'd be interested in how much the everyday people actually cared about the King and the changing queens, also to find out in current terms how much money the clothes the wealthy wore cost as compared to the average wage.

I'm very interested in social history myself, especially about everyday women. I've got a sort-of history blog, not about the past as such, but I've been going through a parenting book from 1945 and applying it to today. Am in the MN network as well under the name of the original publication, Modern Mothercraft. I enjoy writing it, although sometimes struggle with tone as really don't want to come off as all condescending and presentiist about how people in the past lived their lives

Any chance of a link to your blog, please OP?
