Huh. It's going to be January before we know whether they're Richard III's bones.

Just spotted this on the BBC website.

I think it's about time they borrowed some of those super-fast scanners and testing thingummies from CSI and put us out of our misery!

And in other news, there's a big list on the Richard III society website of various Richard III fictions, most of which are on Amazon or eBay (you'll need to click on the yellow Richard III tab on the left, then on Ricardian fiction to see the list).

Reinterrment: likely to be Leicester Cathedral, he said.

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 04/02/2013 10:42

Burial in Leicester Cathedral. I think he would have wanted that.

TheWoollybacksWife · 04/02/2013 10:42

Wow, so fantastic.

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 04/02/2013 10:42

Hope he gets a state funeral.

It was worth the wait!
Typical Chris Huhne making the drama all about him Grin

Gosepimples here as they showed the DNA... how calm that lady was - I'd have been hyperventilating... (as indeed am here at my desk.) Very poignant that if the skellie had been fiund in the next generation, the dna would not ba available...

MrsSalvoMontalbano · 04/02/2013 10:47

sallster yes, welling up here too...

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/02/2013 10:47

Oh, I'm glad it's going to be Leicester Cathedral. Smile

I've not seen it yet but couldn't resist checking the thread.

SaggyOldClothCatpuss · 04/02/2013 10:49

I bet the cleaning lady for Leicester Cathedral is cacking her pants! There are going to be LOTS of visitors...
My archer friend and I definitely want to visit!

Sallster · 04/02/2013 10:55

Glad it's not just me!

sieglinde · 04/02/2013 10:58

Yes, welling up here too over the wounds.

Not so thrilled about Leicester Cathedral, though I see the reasoning. Surely it should be an RC funeral/burial service, though?

Allalonenow · 04/02/2013 11:00

Wow! Brilliant stuff!

scaevola · 04/02/2013 11:04

Leicester Cathedral was a Catholic church when Richard III lived, so no conflict there.

Perhaps they'll come up with a new Order of Service, as there can't be much precedent for reburial of dead monarchs. Or does someone know better?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/02/2013 11:06

Yes, I'm curious about that too.

I know someone whose PhD thesis involved reconstructing a medieval Catholic Mass, and they did then perform it at a C of E Church with the bread and wine and everything, so it might be they'd be willing to do something like that again. I wonder.

I do like that it's Leicester cathedral. Leicester does need it, IMO.

sieglinde · 04/02/2013 11:08

Fascinating on the PhD, LRD. Sounds like just what's needed. Would also be great to see that - interesting in itself.

mummytime · 04/02/2013 11:19

Knowing modern Cathedrals it will be a joint C of E and Catholic thing if the RC agree. We normally have lots of RC Priests (Bishops etc.), various protestant leaders, and the odd Iman and Rabbi at my local Cathedral major services (Anniversary, instillation of major clergy etc.).

nagynolonger · 04/02/2013 11:57

I think it's great that he will be burried at St Martin's.

Nottingham make so much of the Robin Hood link it will be great that Leicester can get a look in. And King Richard really existed!

carbalanche · 04/02/2013 12:36

I loved the reactions of everyone on the panel. All those lovely but reserved hugs and not a high-five in sight! Kudos to Leicester University - always good to remind everyone that there are centres of academic excellence throughout the UK.

Mirage · 04/02/2013 12:42

Hurrah! I was weeding someone's garden this morning and was hoping it'd be on R4,but no mention,so found Radio Leicester on my phone and listened.I confess to getting a bit teary when I heard the news, poor old King, all those years under an inner city car park.

I rang my mum when I got home, she was all emotional about it all,she is a big Ricardian and was thrilled to bits.It is definitely excellent news for Leicester, there is a lot of history there but it has always been overlooked.

LiviaAugusta · 04/02/2013 15:51

Just finished work and seen the news, I'm getting quite teary too, so glad it was him.

KatieScarlett2833 · 04/02/2013 18:04

Can't wait to see the programme tonight even though we know the result

greenhill · 04/02/2013 18:32

The best thing about the programme tonight will be the facial reconstruction. They didn't show that this morning.

LeeCoakley · 04/02/2013 18:34

Absolutely greenhill, that's what I'll be looking forward to the most.

KatieScarlett2833 · 04/02/2013 19:58

Wonder how close the recon is to the portrait pics (drums fingers) Smile
