I'm not really sure if this is the right forum to be posting this - so if it isn't I apologise in advance, and please point me in the right direction!

My DS is 16 and at college studying A Levels in Business Studies, Biology and Psychology.

After a few false starts of deciding what he wants to be "when he grows up", he's decided that primary school teaching might be for him.

We are at a loss as to where to look for info. We have worked out that there seem to be a couple of routes to becoming a teacher but all help/info would be gratefully received.

You could try the tda website also try UCAS website for a degree in primary education and where this can be studied. The prospects website is also a got one. Also does your son have access to a connexions advisor as they can help. Connnexions also have a website. good luck

He can either do an undergraduate degree in education / teacher training (the name varies, but check that the course has ITT or QTS status). For this, he will need his A levels plus GCSEs grade C or above in maths, english and science.

Or he can do a degree and then a PGCE afterwards.

If he is thinking of doing a first degree in teaching (which a lot of primary school teachers do), then he should think about getting some experience in a primary school. My college offers voluntary service in a primary school once a week, or we offer a pre teaching award, which won't be part of his offer, but it shows commitment to teaching, which he will need to demonstrate at his interviews.
