Hi
Was wondering if any of you mums could offer me some advice or tell me about your experiences.
I'm a sahm and have been for the past 7 years. My children are 7, 5 and 2. I've got to the point now where I really feel like I need to do something for me and want to get learning again. I've been looking into distance learning and doing either a diploma or a degree. I just wondered how other parents had found this with children to manage as well? Do you have tutorials over the phone? Which is the best company to go with? Are some more recognised than others? I'm hoping to do either pyschology or criminology.

Thanks v much

Hi blondemummy,

Just a quick note to say we have recently uploaded a video to YouTube featuring one of our Criminology students discussing why he chose the course. It can be viewed at www.youtube.com/homelearningcollege#p/u/1/7eez6ZEJJJk.

If you would like any more information about our distance learning courses please visit our website at www.homelearningcollege.com/Courses/ or call us on 0800 917 5902.

Hello! I am a SAHM and finished my OU degree last year. My experience of OU study was vpositive, started my first course two weeks before DS1 was born and also now have DS2. It was hard work at times when the DCs were babies but once they were at nursery part-time study was much easier. For me, OU was the only option - DH works late very often so there wasn't a possibility of doing evening classes, and none of the AE colleges locally had creche cover. There were OU tutorials about once a month on all my courses, usually a choice of weeknight or Saturdays (I'm in central London) and the tutors were all v.accessible by phone or email. there are also chatrooms on the OU website so you can discuss subjects with fellow students. Have a look at the OU website, the helplines are also vuseful and they have regular open days in all areas so you can go along and have a chat with tutors. Hope this helps, and good luck!
