Law conversion - need advice!

My cousin is thinking of a career in law. She's just about to graduate from an RG uni in History, predicted a first, and is looking at doing law conversion.

Everyone talks about the College of Law - is it really the best one? The fees are astronomical! I'm sure they've gone up since a few years ago. Are there any others that are good? How important is it to be in London? (she is quite keen to live in London, but knows it will be more expensive)

Is it worthwhile? To my mind, she would be good at it, v. analytical (an argumental!) mind, always been very academic. But how likely is she to get a job afterwards? There seem to be so many law graduates. She hasn't got any work experience in law yet but could try to get some this summer. She's not sure whether to do the BVC or LPC after her GDL, but knows that BVC is more competitive.

Fees should not matter, as she needs to get a training contract first with a firm who will pay the fees. If she is as good as you say, then she should be able to get this although to be honest the time to look is at the end of the second year, she will miss this September's recruitment intake.

Some "magic circle" firms will send their grads to BPP rather than the College of Law these days but both are v respectable.

Without a training contract starting law conversion is getting into debt on spec, the market is extremely competitive, worse than normal due to redundancies and reduced graduate intakes so definitely not recommended.

The same goes for barristers - she should only do the BVC with a pupillage lined up.
