In my 40's, is a complete career change possible from Arts to Sciences?

Had a career in the Arts pre ds, and now all things scientific are completely fascinating me.

I've started a pre science course at the OU, and i'm loving it. I've really no maths or science background even at high school level, so i'm surprised at how much i'm enjoying it.

Ideally, I'd like to study Nutrition and Dietetics - but that would be further down the line, and given my timescale/commitments would be realistically looking at entering the job market again in my mid 40s.

Is this change even feasible in the current/future job market. I don't want to save to study and then do all the work, and find that there is rampant ageism or no demand for people with these qualifications.

Any thoughts? Has anyone done something similar themselves or know of someone who has?

Many people make a career change in their 40's....or start one as their kids, if they have any, tend to be on their own or at least more self-sufficient by then.

I'd say do it now while you are interested. The economy/job market will turn around, as it has in the past, and you will be ready for it when it does. Areas in health care are often some of the most needed positions.

Sure you may be in your mid40's by the time you are done, but you will be that age anyway.....might as well have the education done and be ready to be working in a field that interests you when you get there!

Otherwise you'll be thinking of the "should haves" and the "if onlys"....

Thanks for the positivity and wise words doulalc.

I'll have to remember those when the going gets tough!
