Hello.

I am a single mother receiving income support, CB and CTC.
I have applied to do an access course beginning in september when my eldest DC starts full-time school.

I have been unable to find anything online to say whether or not my benefits would change when I become a full-time student or if I would be entitled to any help with childcare for my youngest.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

found this useful

I've been looking at this sort of thing recently as I'l be a full time Uni student from Jan 2010 - but because its with open uni, I'm not entitled to it

But the course you'll be doing sounds like you will be entitled

Hi,

Yes you should get help with course fees, although you may have to top it up a little yourself.

Childcare should also be paid, it was paid in full by my college (if your college does this then apply very early as people do get turned away benefits or not. Strictly first come first served). If not then you should be able to get help from tax credits up to 85% I believe.

You will be able to remain on IS and should recieve a £30 per week learning allownace depending on having attendance sheet signed off.

Once at Uni you have to come off IS but should be entitled to the majority of housing benefit as usual.

It really is well worth doing, I completed my access course last year and have just started my first year of 3 at Uni.
