OK, I am on an Access course and can tell you that for most places it is relatively "part time". You have to do about 15 hours of classwork per week, and it usually lasts 1 year, depending on what you want to do.
I have almost finished my Access to Nursing and Midwifery and whilst I found it tough (3 kids too) I was older than most and so I was really ready to learn, whilst the youngsters were quite lazy and skived off as much as poss.
You are expected to be able to write a good essay, but normally get 2nd chances to have another go.
In my course we had to do Healthcare Law, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, Maths, English, Human Biology and Study Skills.
Its not like being at school, because you get out what you put in. If you are late or dont turn up, you miss class and expected to find out about the lesson and make it up.
I used to set aside 3 hours on my day off every week for homework.
Having said all that, I have worked really, really hard, had 3 Uni interviews for a midwifery place, only to find out that the courses are already full, and I am devastated. So if I were you, I would check all these things out first before you make a decision. Good luck!!!
